So another win in a cup match, excellent.
A lot of praise for Munetsi, Tulo and Andre and they deserve it however the stand out player for me was Krejci . He was calm at the back, looked solid and passed the ball effectively. He must start next match.
Has VP stumbled onto a formation that works with a 4 3 3?

24 Sep 2025 17:49:12
Yes the game blossomed for us and I only felt worried when Toti and Agbadou came on.

25 Sep 2025 10:28:22
Biggest lesson, which I hope VP recognises, from the Everton game relates to one of our better players. The most vulnerable we looked in that game was when Joao Gomes came on. Who is telling him to be the first player to press. He was so easily bypassed, and in the Leeds game, it was frightening. It makes it so easy for the opposition to break our lines. Surely VP can see the need for Andre and Gomes to sit and then to press the oppositions midfielders. Gomes was trying to steal the ball from Everton’s back four. I also think VP should be demanding that our two centre midfielders take responsibility for either the left side or the right side of the oppositions midfield. Stats have shown that Gomes is the most easily by-passed midfielder in the Premier League this season. This is not his fault, VP must be telling him to try to win the ball as high up the field as possible, especially at home. Hoping for a more controlled Gomes at Tottenham.

Wolfthistle - good post!
And not to be booked so regularly especially for really stupid fouls!

24 Sep 2025 12:54:47
Is it me but do these cup matches look like they have been 'seeded'? I assumed the draw was chance but isn't it amazing how bigger teams have been kept apart?

Lincoln v Chelsea
Liverpool v Southampton
Huddersfield v Man City
Newcastle v Bradford City
Spurs v Doncaster

And of course:
Grimsby v Man U

Surely not Deep all is random 👍

24 Sep 2025 13:21:37
Ot is Deep.

BBC article

24 Sep 2025 16:16:24
Trouble is, yes, they were kind of seeded in the fact that no team in European competition could be drawn against each other Deep throat.
They were drawn first in a random home/away fashion, then the other teams drawn randomly to face.
I don't know if that will be the case again tonight, but I imagine it will.

24 Sep 2025 09:04:30
Why are people so negative you have to start somewhere Wolves won't 2-0 with a back 4. Plus Evertons 2nd half team was there strongest and still couldn't score. Plus look who was left out of the Wolves team the 2 players who make the most mistakes Agbadou and Toti. If I was VP play a back four and give Krejci the captains armband also drop Belgarde and whang for Lopes and Gomes.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Sep 2025 09:37:49
I agree Shada, surely VP will keep the same defence and keeper now for the next game. Gomes and Andre back in midfield, Krejci has looked good so far, no argument from me regarding him being captain. No Agbadou or Toti and no goal assist provided. I take it Hwang and Bellegarde offered very little again?

24 Sep 2025 09:53:05
Personally, I always believed the result is more important than the performance and that was the case last night. VP did make changes in formation and personnel and got the result so maybe he's starting to get a better feel for his squad.

I know Everton fans were having a rant about their team selection but that happens in the cup rounds these days. Hopefully, VP has learnt something last night about his players and the way to play them and carries that forward into League games, especially with the defence. Wolves did, however, score two excellent goals in both the build up and execution so let's it's a sign of better things to come.

24 Sep 2025 10:19:18
You're right. A win is a win Shada. Moyes may have underestimated us but he picked a very strong bench just in case. Their £100mil Jack the Lad came on and huffed and puffed. We scored two excellent goals, and Johnstone did well enough to displace Sa as first choice keeper.

24 Sep 2025 11:11:47
Yep. I went to the game last night. It wasn't brilliant but we won which hopefully will give the lads a bit of confidence. Both Tolu and Munetsi took their goals when. Munetsi played quite well 1st half but then faded into obscurity the 2nd much like Arias and Bellegarde. Hwang did virtually nothing all match. I have absolutely no idea what's wrong with him. He's nothing like the player we had 18 months ago. Nothing sticks to him, there's little movement off the ball. He seems completely shot of confidence. Bellegarde is not a starter for me. His decision making is very poor. We had a great opportunity from a break about 2 minutes from the end of the first half. Bellegarde running with 3 Wolves players in front of him and great positions against 2 Everton full backs and he just the ball in no mans land. On a positive note and I've been critical of rubbishing Johnstone apart from one error I thought he had a good game again. Certainly a great save in the 1st half to stop us going 1-0 down. His distribution from kicks are far better than Sa's. He deserves to keep his place.

24 Sep 2025 11:40:37
Thanks for the summary Blackfords, much appreciated. Maybe the same side moving forward then apart from Hwang and Bellegarde. I thought we needed a new keeper in the summer as thought for sometime now that Sa is not the best, happy to see Johnstone keep his place, at least for now.

24 Sep 2025 11:48:09
Johnstone proved me wrong last night, solid performance I thought.

24 Sep 2025 12:47:28
That break chance just before half time would have been snapped up by Cunha and Neto in the past, were my exact thoughts as I watched.

23 Sep 2025 23:56:46
Hoping tonight will help with confidence but I'm not convinced with tonight's performance against a weakened Everton. Why do we not have that up and at them mentality, especially at home. Still not creating anything and I don't see any identity. Krejki looks Quality but then again so did agadoo last year. Think we need to persist with hairy ass, think he will come good, played at top level already. Andre superb tonight.

Some people are never satisfied. Would you prefer a 6th straight defeat. We have to start somewhere, and a 2 nil result against an Everton side who were almost like for like With the side who thrashed us only a few weeks ago in the second half, is progress in my book

24 Sep 2025 08:25:27
Very happy we won and VP changed things at least in defence. Did Hwang and Bellegarde play any better? Unfortunately couldn’t watch the game, might have to miss more if we start winning🤞👍.

24 Sep 2025 10:01:45
Bellegarde did, Hwang didn't.

23 Sep 2025 22:40:14
Johnstone has to start in goal Saturday for me apart from one mis placed pass he had a solid game, 4 at the back also has to be the way forward.
Good result tonight.

24 Sep 2025 06:20:35
Great to get a win! Everton, pre-match, had built this up as their main chance of a trophy. So, despite quality lacking in the game, this was a significant result.
Let's rattle Spurs cage this weekend!

23 Sep 2025 21:34:27
Keep toti and agba away from our starting line up 4-5-1 all the way coyw

23 Sep 2025 22:40:24
Based on tonight’s performance very disappointed with Arias, Toti, Monetse, Larson, Belgarrde, He Chan and even Arte. We lack pace and skill. I had great hope for Arias but as of yet is not doing the business. Some are trying hard but they are just not good enough.
Yes we won, we enjoyed possession but had no creativity. Our defence is so frustrating with their ability to pass forward or to a wolves player. Passing sideways and backwards is not how you score goals.
Tonight is the first time I thought we are in serious trouble of relegation

23 Sep 2025 23:13:48
Krecji was so assured in defence, looked unflustered and has a decent left foot. Despite his versatility, surely he must play in the back line to bring some much needed calmness.

23 Sep 2025 23:18:48
Papered over some very large cracks imo. This is a team of player's who want to be in the Premier league but simply aren't good enough and I include larson in with that.smash and grab tonight and that's what it is was.

24 Sep 2025 06:45:13
Your right lexluna, but I wonder if it's VPs game plan and instruction that's holding us back? Certainly there was some odd expressions and body language when we could have pushed forward and instead we were almost turned to look back before we recoeved the ball. The silly playing around at the back almost caught us when Johnstone got it wrong, and see how it worked for championship Southampton at Liverpool, its not worth the risk with our lads.
Having said that I thought we looked a lot more coherent in doc santi and krecji, who I thought was excellent.
Bueno H as surely cemented his name in the team. Although Everton were pretty poor. Spurs will be difficult to hold and the defence is still a problem VP needs to resolve.
Speed going forward is there if permitted in Hugo, jackson, rodrigo and like him or not bellegarde. (I'm omitting Hwang because he's just not in the game). But we just can't link it quick enough, take too many touches, and movement is lost, so back it goes.
Anyway 2-0, two nice goals, name in the bag.

24 Sep 2025 08:28:59
Maybe after the recent run, any win is a good win. A draw against spurs on Saturday would be further progress and a platform to build on. The clean sheet is a definite step forward COYW

24 Sep 2025 12:10:58
Not sure what's happened with Agbadou, he seemed solid last season.

24 Sep 2025 15:34:38
Gig. What game did you watch?

I also question when people complain about passing sideways/backwards or say there is no creativity. There are times when the pass forward is not a good option and opposition has shut down passing lanes and need to reset before going forward again. If you keep possession, the opposition has less chance to score. Regarding creativity, there is creativity many times with ball or player movement, but it doesn't end up to a goal. So be careful to separate lack of creativity from lack of goal scoring success.

24 Sep 2025 16:25:10
Take your point NJ, but its the needless back passes and sideway dallying that are frustrating and allow the oppo to get back in place or move up. One poor pass or lapse can cost us as it already has.
Re creativity, movement is fine if your fellow team mates are going to know where and when to play a ball, or they are being observant to see it. We are poor in that respect, too slow, the movements wasted and we pass a sideways ball.
I think you can see a link as to why some of complain about it?

24 Sep 2025 17:22:27
True Abbey, that understanding of teammates movements is something that takes time with new players. I have mentioned before with so many new players it will take time to gel. It isn't always poor runs or movement. Sometimes the player on the ball doesn't see it or anticipate the move and rather than take a gamble, they instead pass sideways or back to maintain possession. I do understand the frustration but sometimes our overview from above on TV is easier to see the pass, whereas on the field the view of player w ball is not as clear. As you know there is strategy in moving the ball side to side. The opposition may not move their defenses adequately and leave an opening for a through ball. Many think it is pointless, but that isn't really the case most times.

23 Sep 2025 17:15:38
Is Jorges Mendez running this Circus.the connection with Fosun, Gestitute and VP is very ominous.Beware of the devil you know!

23 Sep 2025 16:23:59
I don't think we stand a chance tonight.
Vp will be more concerned about league then cup matches.once this team knows how to play as a team.

23 Sep 2025 17:56:43
We've always a chance Moby but it'll be hard. As for VP I think he needs a win, and soon. Confidence is important and a good performance, getting the fans back on side essential, so I'm now hoping. COYW

23 Sep 2025 18:47:59
I hear what ya saying but to be honest I think at this stage VP just needs these players to know/remember what a win actually feels like. I reckon he'll be playing hard for it tonight (selection wise), doesn't mean much going off Sat sadly mind! 👍

23 Sep 2025 18:58:25
The lineup looks very weird!

23 Sep 2025 19:15:21
Well something needs to change, let's just hope they play a more attacking game.

23 Sep 2025 19:54:53
Can't believe the line up I've just seen on BBC sport 433 with Santiago Bueno in centre midfield, is somebody having a laugh?

23 Sep 2025 20:38:49
Well its the same boring slow sideways backwards with spurts of neat forward play, and spurts of what could have been. Well taken goal by munetsi after Arias hooked in a volley that was palmed away.
Both teams pretty poor but we're just edging it.
The body language dosnt suggest to me that the lads like playing this way but VPs the boss and that makes me wonder.
Let's hope it's a better 2nd half.

23 Sep 2025 20:46:27
I thought you were old enough to know never to believe the BBC Mike

23 Sep 2025 21:42:30
Well that comfired two things I already suspected. Doherty should never have been dropped and we looked a LOT better without Agbadou! It will also do Agbadou good to have to work for his place again. Lovely finish by Tolu at the end, onwards and upwards! 🐺

23 Sep 2025 21:48:34
What a fantastic second from tolu and the measured pass through by gomez. Thought we were finding ourselves as a team as the half went on. Dilemma for VP now, Doc santi and krici having some understanding. Thought Hugo covered well and carried the ball well going forward, looked frustrated at times having to go backwards.
We looked abit disjointed after Everton subs came on, but contained them and thankfully their shots were woeful.
It'll be a different challenge at spurs

23 Sep 2025 12:58:16
I am not saying throw mane in at the deep end .
Just try him out gradually
Perhaps bring him on as a sub.
What we need at the moment is someone to motivate them.
We have players who are not fit enough for Premiership football.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Sep 2025 13:23:02
You're obviously a Mane fan Moby. Saturday he scored a spectacular at Arsenal U21s, however the pace knowledge and strength of the prem maybe abit too soon. By all means put him on the bench if circumstances allow and acclimatise him, but a full bloodied start may not be the best thing for him yet.
We've jsl and tolu to accommodate VPs wants.
I like Mane but as you say we've enough players not premiership ready yet.

23 Sep 2025 14:49:34
Interesting to see tonight’s team, will VP make changes or stick to his favourites. Surely he has to make changes, no Sa, Agbadou, Bellegarde. Will Doc play, be good to see a new defence in my opinion, maybe Krejci at the back, be also good to not gift the opposition a goal for a change.

23 Sep 2025 15:29:30
I see predicted line up includes Hwang! Come on the ten men. Would be crazy selection.

23 Sep 2025 15:48:29
I reckon Johnstone, santi doc yerson/kricji, up front tolu and hwang arias midfield gomez Andre, then two of Hugo rodrigo hoever Wolfe jackson.
Unless of course VP comes up with something different.
Really need a good win tonight but it's hard to see it coming, maybe pens if we're lucky. Then who knows?

23 Sep 2025 09:25:21
In my opinion we desperately need a leader on the pitch and surely Krejci is the answer PLAYING AT CENTRE BACK!.Toti is definitely NOT Captain material
Does anyone know what has happened to Moller Wolfe?.obviously his face does not fit with VP who only plays his favourites who are mostly not up to standard i.e.
Bellegarde
Hwang
Munetsi
Mosquera

23 Sep 2025 12:09:56
Wolfe play for the Norwegian national team and is regarded as one of the best players by the coach and fans. Just beat Moldova 11-1. But he is no good enough for Wolves? Wolfe is not the only good player left out by this coach. Strange and weird team selections have become order of the day.
