VAR
Now Wolves have had the balls to confront VAR and all involved let's see how many teams decide to keep it!
We all know it needs improving but anyone who votes for it to stay as is CANNOT moan about decisions afterwards!

"I've had some good conversations with Jeff this week around the summer and things we might be able to do.

The conversations were good, really helpful. An understanding of what we can and can't do, what it might look like and time frames.

We are in a much better position than we were last summer when we needed to sell players. Now, we don't need to sell anybody.

The money coming in won't be as big as it used to be, when we were able to sign players for ยฃ30 or ยฃ40million and not sell anybody.

But we have some out on loan that will either make the group stronger or be sold and anyone we're desperate not to lose can definitely stay here."

18 May 2024 13:24:15
Unless a number of players from any clubs move to Saudi Arabia for big money kickstarting big spending I suspect the fees will be lower this window, but let's see.

18 May 2024 13:48:44
There are a number of players that clearly have no future with Wolves:
Podence
Guedes
Silva
Sasa (though hard to sell with his current injury)
Ki Jan-Hoever

Should be enough there generate a decent amount of cash.

Now the big question is do Wolves cash in on Neto?

Hey fellas, I seen your thread further down about villa getting champions league, all the nice comments are appreciated it's being a heck of a 5 year rollercoaster but I'm hoping we still have to reach the highest point. I know it had to hurt a little to say nice things after a tough season (as it would me) but it's just proof that we are all human beings first and foremost (there's good and bad in every race) it's mostly decent people on these forums and sure if we all supported the same team it would be boring.
Best of luck next season and let's all enjoy spending the owners money (in our heads๐Ÿ˜‚) over the summer.
The baggies finished off a great season for us tonight lol and spare a thought for the blues fans ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

18 May 2024 06:03:52
It's all good banter at the end of the day whackattack, part of the game as I knew it. You've done well to spoil the traditional table top viewing and best of luck for next year, obviously not when visiting the mol or entertaining the old gold tho.

18 May 2024 07:17:15
Cheers whackattack and well done again for finishing 4th.
It gives me lots more hope for us the wolves to reach 4th tge villa can do it then so why can't we.
All the best ๐Ÿ‘

18 May 2024 10:25:43
Fair play Whack, to you and Villa.

17 May 2024 21:52:54
What a fantastic evening. I'll sleep soundly tonight knowing our neighbours will be languishing for at least another season in the Championship.

18 May 2024 07:18:28
Nice to wake up this morning and see the result was 1 nil when I retired last night.

18 May 2024 07:51:47
Well I'll be hoping to see oxford back up in the championship later today Phil, they've got a job to do v Bolton and in honesty I don't mind who wins but it'll be a nice watch after the prem/var fiascos.

18 May 2024 08:31:22
That's good Abbey mate,
I might slacken the purse strings and put a pound on Oxford lol.

Abbey I'm looking forward to next season I really think we'll be smart in the transfer window giving GON a better squad.
Along with GONS first full close season.
COYW

18 May 2024 10:11:21
I'm certainly hoping for the best phil, I think a lot of it will depend on Fosuns commitment to us, and I'm a little dubious over that at the moment. The sooner we get good news the better for all concerned.
If GONs given what he thinks he needs then I'll be optimistic.
No matter what phil it'll always be COYW COYW COYW from me.

18 May 2024 10:51:45
Great stuff Abbey,

๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ‘

18 May 2024 10:53:37
Abbey the ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’ฏ if you didn't know I learnt from a young un in the boozer the other week apparently it means 100% respect.
Lol

18 May 2024 12:13:53
These eeeegee mogen things are beyond me phil.! 100%. Lol.

18 May 2024 13:40:28
Lol an ongoing learning curve for me all this new phone stuff.lol.
Funny memory when we had our mom our brother had to set up mom's mobile phone and I sent mom a text message with ending lol mom text back saying lots of love too Philip.

Our match against Liverpool has been selected for broadscast by SKY on SKYsports premier league.

18 May 2024 07:19:21
They doing it for Klopp I imagine Rated mate.

18 May 2024 07:54:42
I thought all prem games were available via red button, but yes phil they don't want to miss out on Liverpools farewell emotions do they? There's money in them there hills.

18 May 2024 13:15:17
No idea Abbey I use a site to check what live fixtures are on where I mostlt use Peacock though as I prefer their commentary to the big 6 loving SKY.

17 May 2024 17:35:39
The Football Association (FA) has announced a plan to phase out heading in matches for players under the age of 12 over the next three seasons.

17 May 2024 20:12:43
Well they've already phased out tackling in the senior game.

17 May 2024 23:16:48
As well as physical contact and impartiality from referees.

16 May 2024 19:09:22
Come on Norwich!

16 May 2024 20:04:53
A Norwich ston play off final would be perfect phil

17 May 2024 07:01:34
Oh well Bigste, Southampton to win now.

17 May 2024 10:16:25
Personally never liked Norwich fans since they knocked Wolves out of the playoffs in 2002. Was there that night and have bad memories. Still what goes round comes round eh?

17 May 2024 10:19:53
Come on you saints.

17 May 2024 12:40:35
Would've preferred Norwich to Leeds, but as long as The Saints do the business tonight.

17 May 2024 14:14:55
Now Leeds against Albion how difficult is that? Tonight Matthew Iโ€™m going to be a committed Saints fan.

17 May 2024 18:15:08
As much as I hate and detest Leeds Iโ€™d rather they went up as opposed to those Webb fingered brummies lol

17 May 2024 21:47:10
Doesn't look like the filth will get their day at wembley. Oh well, never mind.

18 May 2024 12:19:14
As a Baggies fan told me the once our fortunes were reversed:
โ€œWeโ€™d love to play you, but weโ€™re not aloudโ€ ๐Ÿบ
Back at ya! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Ž

15 May 2024 19:00:44
The Premier League will next month vote on a proposal to scrap VAR โ€“ but its chances of success have been described as โ€˜unlikelyโ€™.

A resolution to bin the highly controversial system, introduced in 2019, has been submitted by Wolves in what is a highly significant and potentially historic move.

15 May 2024 20:22:27
Hopefully it will gain significant backing and we can finally see it binned. Unfortunately it will probably continue in some form or other and only a nationwide protest by fans, the paying customer will force their hand. Empty grounds would send a significant financial message that could not be ignored.

16 May 2024 06:50:18
The headline is about scrapping VAR. However, the Wolves wording is well structured and very reasonably suggests after 5 years it should be reviewed.
If that is the way it will be debated, then I would hope for a few things:
1. Some better clarity on interpretation, ie "what defines
offside"
2. Like other sports, if there is a referral, to speed things up,
Backroom team make the call, not the nonsense of wasting time
with the Ref. going to the screen.
3. The biggest and most important for me. ALL Premiership
Officials to have to re-apply for their jobs via a new Exam.
They are the weakest link in this!
Will anything change?.not likely!

{Ed001's Note - no 3 is the only one that really matters. Get the PGMOL out of VAR and it might work. Even then I would prefer it gone as it ruins the moment of goal scoring waiting for VAR.}

16 May 2024 09:30:25
Perhaps Mike Deans comments made in August should be brought up in this meeting. Just to recall he was on var and decided not to make a call to his mate on the pitch to avoid him further grief! PGMOL are not fit for purpose. Fact!

16 May 2024 10:46:13
That is you and I in agreement Ed!
Let'd hope all Clubs and fans share the same and something changes regards Officials!

16 May 2024 14:11:56
With all the hype about AI surely that is the way forward in the long run. Human review only in the event of subjective or very rare calls.

16 May 2024 16:56:41
VAR will not be voted out, the so called big six will see to that. They are always the ones that benefit from dodgy decisions, Man City have been the beneficiary of many a dodgy call and yet no other team has broken the rules as much as them. No doubt due mainly to the Saudi money greasing a lot of palms.

16 May 2024 18:02:15
The only way I can see this is if a team can score goals VAR is only of minimum significance, a side scoring 3 goals has a 4th go against them well big deal. Sides that are scraping one goal wins or draws could potentially lose a lot of points. Similarly sides conceding 3 goals its not going to make much difference to.

16 May 2024 18:12:18
Apparently Liverpool have already said they don't want VAR scrapped and 'other' big clubs are expected to agree, reported by Sky news. Their poll is still 73% to scrap it though. Will supporters get what they want? and be able to enjoy the passion of the game without stop/start yes/no stoppages from stockly Park? Nah, no way will the rulers give way and admit they're wrong. They'll carry on sterilising our national game until we stop paying for an emotion free borefest with results being effectively decided by slow motion replays and freeze frame images that don't represent the true nature of the game, and decisions open to suspicion.
The paying fan dosnt matter to them, they don't give a toss, until, the income drops.

16 May 2024 18:24:27
Anyone read Sky's hatchet job? It basically reads like 'little old Wolves are having a moan but the decisions would have been the same anyway' then goes on to quote the match officials stat of 84% correct before 96% correct now! Whilst skating over the fact that a) correct is still FAR to subjective (all it really means is a different panel of refs from those who made the decision in match agree post match) and b) as we cited in our motion it's the supporters entertainment that's the price of it! In fact the entire article makes little mention of fans enjoyment of what is essentially supposed to be an entertainment sport (and exspensive entertainment at that). Like the Eds pointed out before it's not in Sky's interest to get rid as they love the breaks in play! So typical of them to write articles with an agenda to fuel their revenues, shameless ๐Ÿคข

16 May 2024 19:46:49
Sky can say what they want but Howard Webb himself has come out admitted that we:

Should have had a penalty against Man Utd.

Incorrect penalty call against Sheff Utd.

2 incorrect penalty calls against Fulham as well as incorrect call not to send Tim Ream off.

Incorrect call in Newcastle game.

That's 6 confirmed incorrect decisions against us.

More recently the Haaland penalty decision against us was incorrect and the West Ham goal should have been given but was subjectively reviewed by VAR.

VAR is a joke but can be fixed, however the people operating VAR are a disgrace.

16 May 2024 20:24:05
Ofcourse SKY want it kept in it protects their big 6.

17 May 2024 00:02:10
Can it be fixed though Jas, if so how? Cause I'm just not convinced, I agree with Abbey in that I just don't think it suits the nature and pace of footy. Classic example for me was the (brilliant:) disallowed goal agaisnt Forest, Cunhas hand did touch the defenders face however both the ref and more importantly the defending player were CLEARLY unaware that a foul had even occurred! Because essentially it's a contact sport and in real time the contact was nothing and had no impact. In a replay from four angles it's a foul but does that make it a foul?!
People say about AI but they are massively over estimating it's capabilities in a live situation. If six match officials with a stupid amount of camera angles still get it wrong then we are a LONG way from AI being able to do it! And frankly I think the Prem are shamelessly banging that drum cause they are trying to give teams faith in the long term.
Then there's the people operating it who I agree are useless. But as I asked Rugeley, who else is there?! Who's fixing this, cause there's no grand Ref master who has all the answers (Webbs trying to be that but it ain't working:). We have some of the best trained and paid refs in the WORLD and they are currently making a pigs ear of the Prem!
For me, I just don't see how it's compatible with the ONLY thing that brings joy to football and that's the rush of the goal! As long you can't TRULY celebrate a goal being a goal then football will increasingly no longer be football ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿบ

17 May 2024 00:13:51
Ps- Also Jas, just to clarify buddy that Sky weren't saying we hadn't had wrong calls agaisnt. What they were saying was that as the on field ref did/didn't give most of them anyway then outcome would have been the same without VAR ๐Ÿ‘

17 May 2024 05:41:23
I really think the reffing thing is a bit like the arrival of the calculator and humans gradually losing the ability to add up and deduct in their own heads the same, we've become too reliant on tech and the refs now don't concentrate the same because there is VAR, AI would further remove the human element of decision making and as I've said before sterilise the game as we've known it.

Goal line cameras fine we know if a balls over or not, AI decision on contact, or a kneecap interfering because it was 'offside' digitally Isn't. Scrap VAR and let the refs do their job again. Nothing will be 100% correct, and that was part of the supporters enjoyment, having the banter afterwards etc.

17 May 2024 06:06:41
The ones Howard Webb admitted to were all situations where the ref gave the initial call but VAR has had a look and on each occasion come to the same conclusion when they should have overturned the refs decision as they were all a clear and obvious error.

UEFA competitions use Semi Automatic offsides which is what the PL are introducing next season. Hopefully it works better but we'll have to wait and see.

17 May 2024 09:11:59
But there's a point Jas, if they hadn't mucked about with the offside laws a fit linesman with a flag could still indicate offside, not by judging toes or elbows, or in le tessiers case, noses. (Sorry matt).

17 May 2024 10:34:01
Two things need changing. Keep var but replace PGMOL. Blatantly obvious they are unable to apply their so called on field expertise to on screen scrutiny.

Secondly, change the offside law or go back to what itโ€™s intended for. If an attacker has an advantage from being in front of a defender. I.e. there is daylight between them thatโ€™s fine but not a nose or a toenail.

17 May 2024 18:03:40
Again though, replace them with who exactly 47?! Everyone keeps saying all we need to do is replace the officials but how do we actually do that?! Sorry guys but it's an absolute fallacy! These refs are the best we have so any plan ONLY works/happens with them involved!
Not like we can just pop on Amazon and order a new bacth of refs from China is it?! This is the thing when I ask peeps HOW it could work they always start with new refs but you might as well say 'well we will just get some unicorns to officiate, they can call off side with there horns'!
Sorry guys not having a go but I think people (and the Prem) are trying to make out fixing it is FAR easier than it is in reality!

17 May 2024 19:39:45
How about ex Premier players Bullysboy? You know the ones who have played and understand the game. Train them up to run var .A far better solution. The PGMOL have failed.

18 May 2024 01:17:13
47- it's a fair shout and I get why you'd say it but again (let's be honest here) is it anymore realistic than the Grand master of refs or unicorns?! Sorry fella I wish that could happen but it NEVER would for MANY reasons, off the top of me head these alone:
1) let's take Danny Murphy as an example, enjoyable enough to watch but do you HONESTLY think that guy has EVER read the official rule book (front to back) even once?! Cause our current refs have been learning it chapter and verse since they were (somewhere between) 16-25! And you honestly think in the moment Murphy is better equipped to enforce the letter law in a live situation?!
2) most ex players are either pundits or coaches. Now the coaches ain't giving that up to be a ref so that leaves us with pundits. Using Danny Murphy as an example again, this guy struggles to even commentate without shameful bias (same for the rest) but somehow we are going to put these bias ex-players in charge of matches?! Every player has an alliegence, how doe that work for officiating then?
3) Sorry to be a kill joy but this is the hardest one to get around, why would ex-players even want that hassle in their lives?! Most of these guys make more from their pundit appearances than most refs could dream to make! They are mostly doing the pundit rounds cause they don't want the REAL stress of coaching/managing so why in the world would they suddenly want to become refs?!
Again please don't think I'm having ago, cause I get where your coming from. But to be honest I think we are back in the realms of AI unicorns! What's the answer gents?! I wanted VAR and would love it to work! Just not seeing ANY REAL way things will change from the current road of destruction to the game I once loved! ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿบ

{Ed001's Note - most ex-players are neither pundits nor coaches. There is a huge amount that leave the game every year - especially young ones who could be offered a new career path and training in the laws of the game to work on VAR. Then they would be entirely separate from the referees. A large part of a referees training is about managing a game, another chunk is fitness (though hard to tell with some of them!), both of which VAR operators have no need to learn. All they need to do, in reality, is spot a foul, whether it be time-wasting or a pull etc, and bring it to the ref's attention. They should never be making the decision, simply telling the ref it happened.}

18 May 2024 09:45:50
Hi Bullysboy I also wanted var and would love it to work. I do believe there could be a way forward so well explained by Ed001. One area where ex players would have an advantage would be to determine what is laughably called simulation. I like the old fashioned word - cheating! Anyway Iโ€™ve only been on this site for a short while and appreciate the conversation.๐Ÿ‘
