Marco Pasalic on his way apparently. Looks a player with an eye for goal. Loving this transfer window (so far).

Tim156

1.) 04 Aug 2024 23:17:07
We need a striker not another winger.

2.) 05 Aug 2024 10:24:41
Aren't we in danger of exceeding the non British player limit within the squad?

3.) 05 Aug 2024 13:41:19
There's plenty of homegrown players in the squad. I wouldn't get too concerned over it.

4.) 05 Aug 2024 15:55:32
It's not actually 'British' it's home grown so players such as Hugo Bueno don't count as an overseas player

5.) 05 Aug 2024 16:22:13
Definition. UEFA defines locally-trained or 'homegrown' players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21.

Bueno has been with Wolves from the age of seventeen, since 2019.

6.) 05 Aug 2024 17:06:22
I think that's what I said Fordhouses?

7.) 05 Aug 2024 18:56:02
You did! I apologies, I misread your response. Sorry about that.

8.) 05 Aug 2024 19:46:47
Correct gents, what is bizarre mind is that you can even play in the national team and still not count as homegrown. For example Eric Dier who was born in Eng but moved to Portugal at a young age doesn't actually qualify as a homegrown player. Like you guys say I think we are fine, in reality you only need 8 homegrown players ?

9.) 06 Aug 2024 16:16:28
I think they do the same with pigs, start them off in the uk, ship them to Holland where rules aren’t are stringent then get them back as bacon that is classed as British.

09 Jun 2024 19:24:34
NEW: Wolves agree €15m deal to sign winger Rodrigo Gomes from Braga.

Tim156

1.) 09 Jun 2024 20:30:26
If this deal can be got over the line it seems a good signing.

2.) 09 Jun 2024 20:31:14
Beat me to it mate lol, medical booked in.

3.) 10 Jun 2024 10:16:02
Sounds like we may have a good one, let's hope for a few more.

06 Jun 2022 15:58:07
Apparently we're being linked with Almoatasembellah Al Musrati from Braga. If we get him it'll be interesting to see if he gets his own song on the terraces!

Tim156

1.) 06 Jun 2022 19:39:08
I hate this time of year.

If you're Portuguese you're linked with us

If you play in the Portuguese league you're linked with us.

If you've ever been on holiday to the Algarve you're linked with us.

Only when someone signs I take notice

2.) 07 Jun 2022 13:38:07
He'll need a big shirt to get that name on his back!

3.) 07 Jun 2022 21:46:07
Sporting want him to replace Palhinha - so we're linked to both and therefore looking more and more likely we are getting Palhinha.

02 Jan 2022 20:47:11
Oje Ramor on twiitter saying we're close to signing 20 year old defender Goncalo Inacio from Sporting CP. Ramor is a freelance journo, also saying Trippier to Newcastle is a done deal. Make of it what you will.

Tim156

1.) 02 Jan 2022 22:18:41
He's the right age, plays in a position we are looking to fill central defence, Portugese played for Portugal at U21 so would fit the bill for a Wolves signing.

2.) 02 Jan 2022 23:26:39
Haha. This is the same player I recommended to Rated to buy in FM. I've had him for two seasons and he's a left footed CB and a wonderkid, absolute class! Mind you on that game Adama signs contracts and scores 10 goals a season so it's far from realistic! ?

3.) 03 Jan 2022 02:04:38
Yeah he's quality on FM22 BB mate sits in my back 4 nicely alongside Coady.

05 Nov 2025 23:20:40
So Carlos Forbes, deemed not good enough, scores 2 and assists against Barca! Couldn't make it up. We need a winger and pace.

Tim156

1.) 06 Nov 2025 08:53:36
Forbes did absolutely nothing when he was on pitch for us, so it’s a non argument, plenty of players move to other clubs and do well under different coaches. What did Cuhna do at Athletico? But he found his feet with us.

Time To stop look at every little issue and move on, right now we need a coach, who gives a toss what previous players may or may not have done for us if they were still here.

2.) 06 Nov 2025 11:13:03
Have to agree with Sydney here, I mean do you trust your own eyes?! Cause I do and Forbes was frankly a complete waste of a shirt when he played last year! It's a catch 22 because had we spent the (think it was) £15m on him then we'd all have been on here asking why we bought a player he did literally nothing for us all season?! Vitinha is slightly different cause I actually blame Nuno for that one, I loved Nuno but he had his favs and that cost us some seriously decent players! Such is the way of things sadly ?

3.) 06 Nov 2025 12:41:11
Sometimes players fit better in certain leagues and certain clubs - even with some managers players perform differently.

My question with our signings and sales if if we supposedly had such a good academy when Fosun brought the club off Morgan, why is MGW the only player of any note to come from it? The odd one appears in the first team squad for a while then seems to go out on loan never to be seen or heard of again.

Does anyone genuinely know what state is our academy in now?

4.) 06 Nov 2025 15:35:56
Don't forget Bullys that Vitinho was young at the time and our cental midfield was Neves and Moutinho. Enough said! However, for some, the fact that he managed to score against our nemesis (Chorley) should have been sufficient to sign him permanently. If only!

5.) 06 Nov 2025 16:44:16
Vitinha was probably signed as backup for moutinho, however it must have been difficult giving him minutes from the bench when we were playing games out with no.mire than one goal in the result. It's not as if we were winning 3 0 each week.

27 Jun 2024 14:57:06
According to the Athletic, we're in talks with Celta Vigo for their Norway striker Strand Larsen. Fee around £25 million and he's keen. Looks a bit of a unit, he's 6'4 and scored 13 goals in 37 La Liga appearances last season.

Tim156

1.) 27 Jun 2024 20:09:58
A new centre forward. Exciting isn’t it though? Jumpers for goalposts

20 Jun 2024 22:40:19
Thanks Bullys, I was concerned as I read that Chelsea were going to loan him straight out which is often used as a way of getting experience to then eventually get a WP.

I've done a bit of digging and there's now an appeal system which was initiated to fast track top line emerging talent into the Prem rather than lose talent to lesser leagues who's WP rules are softer. We must be confident that this will be the case here.

Tim156

1.) 21 Jun 2024 00:22:43
No worries Tim buddy, to be honest fella you got me reading up on it. Like ya say, I also read that they have bought in Exemption panels to help check for mitagtions in the process (possibly what the aritcle I read was referring to). Essentially all Champ and Prem teams now have up to four players per team for transfers that don't quite meet the points threshold (essentially short term wp exemptions). Normally because they just haven't played for their national team yet. Maybe how we got Lima?
Interestingly they point out that Awoniyi (Forest striker) spent his youth at Liverpool but they had to sell cause he couldn't get a work permit (as he hadn't played for Nigeria), then years later Forest have got him with this loop hole. The articles quick to point out that it's not a free for all, they have to still be close on the points. I think they also still have to qualify for a wp within a couple of seasons or they won't be able to stay/play anymore. With the main way to ensure they will get that wp permit when they apply later down the line; being to play them regularly in the Prem/Champ (gaining points cause the quality of league I believe)! Which is interesting cause it might explain how we stole the march on Chelsea (their quotas probs full, they've got 50+ players:) so you may well be right in that they were going to loan him. Also interesting as I'm fairly sure it's also how we signed Enso so he probs needs to be playing for us or on loan sometime soon to start gaining more points ?

{Ed001's Note - the article is mistaken. Liverpool didn't sell him because he couldn't get a work permit - they sold him after he became eligible for one. They loaned him out because they couldn't get a work permit. I know being pedantic, but there is a distinction which the author should know.}

2.) 21 Jun 2024 02:28:42
Fair do's Ed, I wondered if it was all correct. definitely agree, poor form on the journos part. It suggested that they loaned him out but gave up trying. But as always happy to be corrected ?

{Ed001's Note - I am surprised to be honest, as it is a very well known feature of his transfer. It became a bit of a running joke about him being out on loan because the club were unable to get him a work permit. You can imagine how Liverpool fans reacted when he finally became eligible and they sold him anyway! It was one of those 'oh ffs' moments, when you just wonder what is the point in signing players like that and if the club has any real plans to deal with these issues? Or if he had even been wanted in the first place and was just a sign of a rift between Klopp and the recruitment staff?

More likely he was just unlucky and the space in the team was simply not there to bring him back by the time he was able to get a WP.

It still does work for the article, in that LFC had to keep sending him out on loan for years before the rules changed.}

3.) 22 Jun 2024 01:26:28
Thanks as always for the extra info/insight Ed. I obvs bow to your (undoubtedly:) superior knowledge on all things Liverpool ?
Slightly annoyed at the poor journo, they only 'suggested' that was the case but very clearly NEVER said he had a wp before he left. To be honest it was only a (lazy:) goggle search on my part; but clearly even more lazy from the author! Bizarre that they even picked him out as the 'example' under the circumstances, but as you say I suppose it still makes the point!
Thanks all the same ?

{Ed001's Note - thank you. And I understand that as I get annoyed by the lack of effort and research done in journalism these days. There are very few you can trust to bother now, when it used to be that everything was always checked for accuracy.}

Multiple sites are stating that GON has been interviewed for the Liverpool job. So the board must have given permission for this. I'm a little dismayed tbh, I would have expected a little more loyalty (I know, it's football) and expected him to stay for a few years to gain experience away from the white heat of a Champions League club.

Tim156

1.) 23 Apr 2024 17:30:57
Is one of the sources Alex Crooks. If it is, the its not true because that man hasn't got a clue.

The only decent ones are Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein.

2.) 23 Apr 2024 17:42:13
Few things here Tim, firstly even if true (and it is a BIG IF as I don't believe it to be honest) that doesn't mean they are offering him the job does it. Secondly, whilst I agree that loyalty is important I'm sorry to say it but ANY manager outside the top four clubs is NEVER turning down an interview with them because they might only be asked once in their careers and if you don't have that level of ambition/self belief then you'll never get anywhere in pro sports anyway! Thirdly you mention loyalty, well I believe that GON did his badges at Liverpool and got his first job in management there (managing the youth team) so in fairness loyalty cuts all ways! Lastly, as I think others have already suggested I suspect he wants a new deal (which is why these stories are going round) and the sooner Jeff gets that sorted the sooner we can all relax a bit! ??

3.) 23 Apr 2024 18:05:22
Sorry, but not a chance. He hasn't the experience YET to manage a club like Liverpool. I suspect that when klopp leaves they could be in a state of turmoil for a short while similar to UTD when Ferguson left. It could ruin him if he was offered the job and was sacked shortly after if things didn't work out. Higher profile managers with more experience will be offered that role surely?

4.) 23 Apr 2024 19:46:45
There's not a cat in hells chance that GON will be the next Liverpool manager but I gave to disagree with the 'He hasn't got the experience to manage a big club'.

Pep Guardiola took over the Barcelona job with 'no experience'.
Xavi is now in the same position as is Xavi Alonso.
Ruben Amorim was 35 had 3 months as Braga B manager before getting the Braga job and leading them to a cup win.

Sometimes you don't need the experience, just the will and desire.

I am one of them who thought GON was too inexperienced for the Wolves job. Would I want him out? No. He's doing a tremendous job.

5.) 24 Apr 2024 06:22:09
Reported that he has dismissed this silly rumour.
"O’Neil quickly dismissed that suggestion (Liverpool links) and said his concentration was “100 per cent” on Wolves as they target a strong finish to his first season in charge.
“I have not seen anything. I have not spoken to any football club.”
Source: E&S
Early days, will be an interesting summer!

6.) 24 Apr 2024 07:55:07
And only this morning it's reported that Arne Strop is the favourite for the Liverpool job (feyenoord I think). The press will chuck put loads of things to spark sales/clickbait and sell ad space.
I agree with bully's tho give GON a new contract asap and as bully's said we can breath a sigh of relief and look forward.

7.) 24 Apr 2024 10:57:08
There is no way that Gary is going to Liverpool. Frankie is more likely to go to Hollywood!

8.) 24 Apr 2024 11:48:32
Yes not even a full seasons experience at a single club and less than two years EPL experience in total!

I imagine GON is ambivolent about these rumours because even if they haven't been deliberately leaked like the Man U one a few weeks ago, they don't harm his negotiating position.

Just read that Phil Hayward has re-joined us after leaving for LA Galaxy in 2019. He now heads up our performance and medical department.

Is it a coincidence that for the first few years under Nuno and now this season we seem to be experiencing far fewer injuries than almost any other team in the Prem?

Apparently he's also the man responsible for the team wearing daylight glasses before night games so that the player's body clocks don't start shutting down their metabolism for the evening.

Tim156

1.) 24 Jan 2024 09:46:34
Heard on the radio yesterday that Liverpool were trialling the Glasses tonight before the Fulham game and as such, will become trailblazers by becoming the 1st PL team to use them!

Absolutely pathetic by the press yet again.

2.) 24 Jan 2024 09:50:44
Tim156, the CEO of the company that makes the glasses confirmed in an interview that athletes in America use them, especially College Footballers as the research showed that the body starts shutting down after a prolonged period of activity.

Phil Hayward was working at one of the colleges who used them and saw the benefits and so brought the idea over with him earlier this year and Wolves have been using them all season. But Liverpool beat us to it if you believe the press.

3.) 24 Jan 2024 14:22:44
It didn't work to well away at Ipswich then Jas!

4.) 25 Jan 2024 11:18:42
Our injury record under Hayward's two stints has been excellent. Surely no coincidence?
Has any other Prem team got a better injury record this season?

It's saying on the BBC that the contract will likely contain a minimum release clause.
Is this turning into a Cunha type situation?

Until recently I was convinced we would do enough in the window to get the quality we need combined with what we have to compete this season.
Seeing us against Citeh has changed this. With a couple of signings we will have the quality to compete, but the squad is missing leaders and experience of this league.
Matt Doherty has loads of experience, but isn't in the same mould of say, Coady or Dawson. There needs to be a calming influence on and off the pitch to keep heads up when things go wrong.
Unless the next few in have experience of this league I worry that we have a squad that is too good to go down but does. If the stories of who we are looking at are true then I'd be surprised if we're not the squad with the fewest appearances in the league and have one of the least experienced captains. We need players that can represent the coach on the pitch, encourage, berate and change things on the fly as well as explaining the coaches philosophy in thedressing room.
I hope VP works his magic and he proves me wrong as I now think we're in for a long fretful season

Sorry, I'm unaware of anything that Beckham has done that wasn't self promoting.
I am aware that he was sent off for a petulant swipe in a World Cup game and being paid multi-millions by the at best dodgy Qatar authorities to be an ambassador for them

I remember reading a while back that Brighton keep a shortlist of potential new managers, updated regularly with data on team shape, personality and contract dates etc. Just in case.

Brentford are similar. If their managers underperform, or more likely, get poached, they can act immediately.

Our management appear to be a clueless shower. What does Shi do all day? I can't see what part of his job takes 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. He doesn't appear to do anything of note.

What about being so dedicated and meticulous that you start early and end late as most directors of a multi million pound business would to enable the business to be meticulously run, and achieve the maximum possible.

I despair

Teti looked like a Harry Potter character. He was the 'mastermind' behind the last transfer window, I don't honestly think he'll be missed.
Get rid of Shi too and put a couple of folk in who understand the Wolves.

I agree Oxley, a young technical manager along the lines of Danny Rohl or Fabian Hurzeler.
I've no idea who, but I bet Brighton do and Fosun don't!

We have players that are still getting to know their team mates Because most of the signings were late, we haven't yet gelled as a team.
I feel that the quality of players we have are better than several teams in the division and ultimately we'll be fine (just).

The recruitment team were new, tried to get several more players in but failed. Hopefully they will be more successful in the next window and we can bring in a couple of quality signings to make a difference.
Pretty sure that Fosun will do all they can to keep us in the prem, their business plan won't be including relegation. Let's hope they get it right.
