1.) 01 Feb 2021 20:51:31
Has Nuno gone?

2.) 01 Feb 2021 21:01:46
I’m off to bed, good night xx.

3.) 01 Feb 2021 21:05:05
Methinks this is a bit of a leg pull Wozza.

4.) 01 Feb 2021 21:06:31
Night Debs 😞😔😟.

5.) 01 Feb 2021 21:12:35
Nuno is in his slippers in the armchair at home. He don't give a f**k. We ain't signing anyone . Fosun invested heavily in Thomas cooky and that went t**s up, no fans in the ground . however the pharmaceutical side is coining it in. Good night . See ya next year in the championship!

6.) 01 Feb 2021 21:14:25
Don't fancy watching everyone else making their teams stronger but us so night.

7.) 01 Feb 2021 21:17:07
The Realist tells about as much truth as the prime minister.

8.) 01 Feb 2021 21:20:04
Goodnight Wozza you know the truth
Welcome to my world 🤔.

9.) 01 Feb 2021 21:23:41
Tim says on twitter four out no incoming, no panic in boardroom.
Nuno job safe.

10.) 01 Feb 2021 21:29:44
How could ANYONE see the wreck of a man that Nuno currently is and say he doesn't care?! Question his ability fine, that's a matter of opinion but his passion for his craft should not be in doubt! Especially not by fans on THIS forum! 🙄.

11.) 01 Feb 2021 22:21:30
He obviously does care and believes in the project.
I feel for him with his family being in Portugal.
its tough not seeing your family. Not seen my daughter or grandkids for a year. Think we are all down at the moment. Things WILL improve.
Hopefully on and off the field.

12.) 01 Feb 2021 23:52:30
Agreed Wom, it's not an easy time for anyone right now. Hope you and Nuno both get to see ya families soon fella 👍.

13.) 02 Feb 2021 06:42:00
Close to a double deal yesterday similar Ron the Neto Jordao deal
Midfield playmaker Hekar Shute and young striker Auva Debarr we close to signing.
We just couldn’t get it over the line
(Sounds familiar)

14.) 02 Feb 2021 06:50:52
Have none of you not copped on that Wozza10 is a duff account and he/ she/ non-binary/ gender fluid is constantly on the wind up?

15.) 02 Feb 2021 11:35:28
Can't believe it Nuno says he is happy with the squad. He says the players just need to improve their performance! He is in cuckoo land! I think Nuno is struggling, the players have lost confidence. Wolves definitely need to improve the squad especially in midfield. Come on Nuno get in the real world, the results show we are not good enough.

16.) 02 Feb 2021 12:49:28
Melo- I think you are missing his point, I don't think he is saying tbat the squad can't be improved upon I think he is saying that signings aren't going to fix the current rut. And he's right, you can't sign your way out of a crisis in confidence. In fact it could be strongly argued that the lack of faith shown would make matters worse! Whatever people think of the current crop of players the simple fact is collectively they are better than their current position in the table suggests! Are they top seven better, no but are they mid table better absolutely they are! I think one or two on here are forgetting some of the talent that we have! What do you think teams like Brom or Fulham would give for a player of Netos quality?!

17.) 02 Feb 2021 13:56:01
Hi Realist. Can I go to bed yet? I'm knackered!

18.) 02 Feb 2021 15:42:28
Nooooo wait til 6 o’clock and nod off with the rest of us😞.

19.) 02 Feb 2021 15:46:24
West Brom beat us,!

20.) 02 Feb 2021 17:01:53
And Sheff Utd beat Man Utd does that mean they have a better squad than Man U then?!

21.) 02 Feb 2021 17:28:18
You just never know. we mite turn up tonight.

22.) 02 Feb 2021 20:41:50
Well we've beaten Arsenal twice this season now so I'm assuming that means we have a better squad than them?! Happy days! 🤣👍.

23.) 02 Feb 2021 20:59:35
It doesn't matter what time I nod off, I'm a very happy wolves fan tonight.
We rode our luck at the start but we won the match.
😀😀😂😂😀
All the ins and outs of why and the cause of our bad form and results is either interesting reading or hilarious reading.
But the best is reading fans joy of our win tonight.

24.) 02 Feb 2021 22:45:34
First six points of the season!

25.) 02 Feb 2021 23:04:55
We were lucky with the penalty decision but who cares well done Wolves and welcome back to form João

David Luis must have nightmares about us after those two games.

26.) 02 Feb 2021 23:27:37
Window- we really weren't, it was a clear pen! There was contact as Luiz clipped his heal and be sure Luiz new exactly what he was doing! Where we were lucky (for once) is in the abysmal officiating that plagues our leagues these days as for me both this and the Bednarek calls are NEVER red cards! Just bizarre to me if I'm honest, there's less contact allowed in the Prem than the NBA these days! Madness 🤯.

27.) 02 Feb 2021 23:56:13
Wow, what a crap thread, thank the good lord for Bullysboy.
Clearly we are having a confidence issue, good players playing poorly and the signs are there, the rush to pass a ball even if its to know one, even under less pressure than you would expect, its clear the players are feeling the slump.
Bullysboy, absolutely on the money, this cat be fixed by an influx of players, we have good players they don't need a further dent in confidence what they really need is the fans!

28.) 03 Feb 2021 02:02:18
Welcome back to form!
When it was 11 v 11 Wolves were losing, this game was nothing more than a gift with no pluses to take from it. Nuno is finished and so are Wolves, you already own a record 35 million striker who is nothing more than expensive dead wood in less than a season, I told you the players Nuno was bringing in were garbage, your best players have gone and so too have Wolves best seasons, all down hill from here boys, ta ta lads.

29.) 03 Feb 2021 09:27:38
It's lucky for me Avillafan I am not coulrophobic🤣.

30.) 03 Feb 2021 10:16:48
Haha, nothing better to add a shine to a win than a nervous Villa fan popping on here to talk trash cause we look in danger of re finding a bit of form. Ah bless, small club syndrome from a small club fan! In fairness this is a man that knows garbage signings, he supports a team that spaffed £18m on Wesley but still thinks they can pass judgement on Fabio which just hilariously foolish! Cheers Avilla fan, great start to the day to know we are back living rent free in Villa fans heads again! You've had ya lucky run now it's time to let the real quality shine again, now off you trot back to ya own village they must be missing there idiot again! 🤣🐺.

31.) 03 Feb 2021 13:57:45
Oh Villa fan you need to get this "sold your best players" thing off your chest. I don't see anyone coming in for Grealish, and he is the one shining light in your overachieving, abysmal squad. Laud it up while you can.

32.) 03 Feb 2021 17:34:05
Cheers Thor buddy, good to see you back on here. Don't think I've seen a post from you in a while 👍.

33.) 03 Feb 2021 21:41:38
@AVillaFan I see your side are being battered by West Ham, three shots on goal and not one on target (after 70 mins) .

34.) 04 Feb 2021 17:32:31
Grealish? Shining light? If he spent as much time on his feet as he does on his a**e then he would be a world beater!

35.) 05 Feb 2021 11:54:59
Haha! Wozza10 pretending not to be a troll. Either that or he’s a bitter baggie fan.

01 Oct 2020 19:22:25
For the first time tonight I've got it
The business plan has been explained to me the project has been explained to me.
There will be no more signings unless we get a gift horse
We have made a huge gamble a huge gamble
You better believe Mendes will deliver or our club is on the edge
I am the Realist what you read is the truth
Yow ain't sin me rite.

The realist

1.) 01 Oct 2020 20:08:41
So, if no more signings how can Mendes deliver any furthrr in this transfer window. We have players to unload but if they are not Mendes clients how can he justify involvement. Surely the issues now are (1) developing a successful playing style (2) achieving results which keep us in contention for a European place (3)balancing FFP (4) balancing cashflow with empty stadiums (5) acquiring homegrown talent to meet EUFA requirements. We have not over committed this transfer window, the sale of any one or two of Neves, Raul or Traore will wipe off any loss on young player gambled and takes us massively into profit. There are no other external creditors, this is clearly not a risk game for Fosun, unless you have some other previously unidentified exposure.

2.) 01 Oct 2020 20:10:53
Mendez has lined his own pockets . He has killed our transfer stru cture . Can't remember our last signing where he wasn't involved . In 3 years when these kids have filled out we will be awesome . Dunno what division we will be in by then!

3.) 01 Oct 2020 20:49:02
No Palhina in Sporting Lisbon squad for tonight’s Europa Cup match.
Everton signed Godfrey from Norwich, opens up opportunity for Bennett to get his preferred move back to Norfolk.

4.) 01 Oct 2020 20:53:57
Wozza10, can you remember as far back as last week? Ki Jana Hoever. Or maybe 3 weeks ago? Marcal. There you go, 2 signings who had nothing to do with Jorge Mendes.

5.) 01 Oct 2020 20:59:04
We really could do with Paulinha.

6.) 01 Oct 2020 21:00:53
Ok has hoever was part of the deal that stole Jota for 500k up front . Jota was a Mendez client . The 45 million we won't see for 2 years!

7.) 01 Oct 2020 21:03:53
Wozza probably can't remember his own name tbf like most WUMs.

8.) 01 Oct 2020 21:37:11
No he wasn't part of the deal taking Jota to Liverpool. The deals were negotiated at the same time but Hoever was signing for us regardless of Jota moving.

{Ed001's Note - that's sort of true but also incorrect. It is the Jota deal that wouldn't have happened without Hoever moving, as he was the initial downpayment, so he was very much part of the deal for Jota.}

9.) 01 Oct 2020 23:15:12
Ecosse. Palhinha wasn't in the Sporting squad on Sunday either. Not worth reading too much into that. Mind you who knows. They normally do stuff quietly, except Semedo obviously.

10.) 02 Oct 2020 00:38:07
Thanks for the clarification Ed 👍 But still all I'm reading into that is that Nuno clearly sees Hoever as more of a long term prospect for the club than he saw Jota to be. That's not to say anything on Jotas quality mind, just the realities of the game. Wozza you bang on about Mendes without the first clue about the man! Don't get me wrong I'm not naive enough to think this business doesn't work in his favour but when he met Fosun I'm pretty certain his yearly profits were (comfortably) higher than that of Wolves! I'm not saying his dealings with the club aren't within his own interest but you bang on like it's a one way relationship! We got Jota and Neves to swap Champs League for the Championship and they didn't even bat an eye! Did it ever occur to you that promises were made? Cause it seems entirely likely to me that Jorge went to them and said "give me 2-4 up years of your best and I'll get you a move to a top club"! And were any of us complaining when Diogo and Rueben were tearing the championship a new one?! Yes the relationship has (no doubt) worked for Jorge but its worked for us as well! We've had three years of a TOP class player then made £30m to boot, please tell me where the problem is in that?! I understand being suspicious of Mendes but if you knew ANYTHING about the man you'd realise that he REALLY doesn't need us to make his money! He's at the top end of a business where money makes itself! Clearly Fosun and Jorge have decided to try and find or more likely create (with the idea to sell on) a different way of running a club. I'm not saying it'll work only time will tell. But you keep making Mendes out to be some kind of tinker with tarmac and frankly its laughable! Like the man or not (I'm still on the fence) BUT he is clearly a VERY successful business man, with or without Fosun! COYW 🐺.

11.) 02 Oct 2020 07:14:47
Made some very good points Bullys. There is a very small section of our fanbase who still seem to think we are in some way hard done by! Just look at the progression in a short space. Every player who comes in is doubled/ tripled in value. Make no mistake we are going to sell more when the price is right.

I.

12.) 02 Oct 2020 10:13:49
We have to accept that financially we are still struggling to compete in the top half of the prem. Look at the quality of the second teams that Arsenal and Liverpool put out last night. Or for that matter even Brighton put out against Man Utd. Hopefully we have a fallback plan which may include the likes of MGW if the team is cleaned out of top players. Don't think that will happen like that. But the folks who want to just forget about the Lambert days and expect to get the double over Citeh each year are just delusional. Be grateful for what is on offer.

13.) 02 Oct 2020 11:05:40
Well said Bully. I don't know why it is a surprise to people that agents such as Mendes make money! We all need to make money and Mendes makes more that most people; so do footballers. Also, Wozza has moaned that it will take two years to get the Jota money in. This is a gross oversimplification of deals in general these days. It would be extremely rare for a club to pay 100% upfront cash. Deals are structured in very complex ways, sometimes over a period of several years. If we buy a player this weekend I'm sure we will pay on the never-never.

14.) 02 Oct 2020 11:10:50
Wozza10 is clearly a troll.

02 Sep 2020 18:20:24
Been digging deeper and deeper with my "loose connections" and absolutely drawn a blank.
No news no rumours no gossip
Not a snippet, all keeping stum.

My gut feeling Doc sold to develope Adama as a wing back therefore allowing Neto more game time.
Maitland-Niles was nailed on to come into the squad filling at at right back left back or central midfield.
Then we try and be smart and penny pinching it goes tits up.
Jeff MOXshi suddenly feels out of his depth and turns to Mendez again
Mendes I believe will help Fosun and Nuno once more,
But if he can we must wake up and smell the coffee this at best is embarrassing.
Shi has to get results and is floundering out of his depth in the world of modern day football.
Dalrymple then Thelwell are major losse who should have been replaced with the best.
It's now crunch time.
Do you pant wetting sit on the fence or bury your head.
Ancelotti as I told you days ago shows what can be done if you dare to dream.
Finished in our shadow, but have showed the ambition, have the right recruitment in place, Mr Thelwell a big big loss I suggest.

The realist

1.) 02 Sep 2020 19:17:13
I agree that Shi thinks he knows more than he does about football and should be involved in negotiations, at most. Now I'm not sure that is even the case.
He really has a self-inflated opinion of himself.
He said he knew all of the FFP rules and we still got fined so what does that tell you? Were they playing too cute with stocking the U23s and then playing them on the senior squad?

I agree with the Traore wing-back thing.

And I agree that the other teams we were near at the end of the season are buying and will get more points next season if their coaches don't turn out to be in over their heads. Add to that Everton.
We still have time to equal that buy getting 3 or 4 good "ready for primetime" players instead of trying to be cute and getting U23s and hope they can help.

2.) 02 Sep 2020 19:15:34
Totally agree the realist. Notice the blinkered few have gone quiet. They too are beginning to smell trouble.

3.) 02 Sep 2020 19:34:44
I'm just glad I don't live in your world, it has been proven time and again we don't leak transfer targets, sometimes you all read too much into everything which is why you get so many comments. Everything about you is negative, I couldn't cope with that so I believe absolutely nothing instead of hanging on rumour.

4.) 02 Sep 2020 20:18:20
It's like readings death notices in the paper with some on you on here, nothing is ever good enough, I will support Wolves and the manager whatever happens, try having a bit of patience instead of the constant brain drain negative forecast.

5.) 02 Sep 2020 20:27:06
It’s fascinating that a delay in announcing signings causes some on here to think that the club is imploding.
The loss of Thelwell has left a gap but we have a capable group of scouts, a backroom staff that is the envy of many, close connections to Jorge M. and of course Nuno himself so I don’t think that we struggle to identify suitable transfer targets the difficulty comes in securing their signature because if they are any good others will be chasing them as well.
Also worth noting that our present squad seems very tight knit so anyone joining has to buy into the squad ethic, if not the whole plan could be seriously set back.
I’m fully expecting good players to come in ——-but with no advance fanfare.

6.) 02 Sep 2020 20:35:21
How many times does it need to be said? Wolves have never let on on any transfers until the deal is done.
No paper reported or knew about Neves, Patricio, Moutinho, Neto, Raul etc until the deal was done.

7.) 02 Sep 2020 20:15:57
Indeed, Ancelotti does show what can be done with a team that has been in the top division longer than ANY other with the MANY financial and strategic facets that brings! OK Ed002 I now see why you get SO annoyed, it's like FFP doesn't even exist to some of the doughnuts on here! 🙄
Realist fella literally ALL of that is just your imagination, the club haven't said anything of the sort! As your making stuff up anyway you might as well make yourself happy, unless of course the club being in this imaginary peril you describe does make you happy?!
And SQ people have gone quiet cause frankly they are tired of responding to a group of grown men that show less patience than a creche at feeding time! Why don't we have this chat again at the end of the window?! If you are indeed right and (as you all seem so hopeful of) the club does indeed have problems then I'm happy to dicuss. Otherwise your posts just become the equivalent of an angry toddler shouting 'but I want it NOW' at a computer screen! 🤣🤣🤣.

8.) 02 Sep 2020 20:50:53
Absolute rubbish.

Maybe it's the lockdown and losing sense on reality.

But Wolves have there targets and keep them quiet until the last minute.

Don't get me wrong not having European football will have put a dent in the plans for some of Nuno's recruitment plans.

However even the players we have been linked to will add to the squad:

Nunez-CB-Athletic Bilbao
Savic-CB-Athletico Madrid
Dias-CB-Benfica
Badioshile-CB-Monaco
Maitland-Niles-WB/ CM-Arsenal
Ghoulam-WB-Napoli
Ocampos-WB-Sevilla
Telles-WB-Porto
Palhinha-DM-Sporting
Kessie-Cm-AC Milan
Paulinho-CF-Braga
Marega-CF-Porto
Lemar-WF-Athletico Madrid

Any 4 of those players are an improvement on last seasons squad. And I would imagine more youth players will be added as well.

9.) 03 Sep 2020 07:01:44
I have posted if anyone on here is blinkered its me. I have tried not to get sucked into the war of words on here created by SQ and Paul Tam.
Difference of opinion is fine but The wolves are of paramount importance not a few posters on here being outrageous in their comments.
Say and call fans what you want Nothing can stop the feel good factor of being a true wolves fan.
A true fan will deal with frustration of any kind not by resorting to causing arguments between other fans who are genuinely wanting to see and read all good things about the club.
Thought the days of moaning and negative fans had gone since Nuno arrived but they're there in droves it seems the first time of any hurdle the club has to get over.
Wouldn't want negative fans next to me anywhere or anytime.

10.) 03 Sep 2020 11:28:30
Why call yourself a Realist when all you talk is Doom and Gloom and Negativity.

11.) 03 Sep 2020 11:41:46
Can the usual suspects have a whip-round to place an obituary notice in The Times? Something like, Wolverhampton Wanderers, date of death September 2020. Cause of death: Lack of cash. Mourned by a few remaining happy clapper fans. RIP.

12.) 03 Sep 2020 12:38:43
Fair enough Deep Throat everyone has an opinion.

However what makes you think Wolves are broke? We aren't in the same position as Newcastle for example.

As listed above some of the players wolves are linked to are better than anything we have been linked to in the last 40 years.

I understand the hunger for trophies and champions league football. I understand the gulf between the rest and the top 6.

But wolves are in the strongest position since the 1950's. We have less games this year and won't get every target as they will want European football before next year's euros. We need to keep our feet on the ground as see what the club can get together.

I'm sure it's easier than getting Neves, Jota, Boly, Moutinho, Raul, Traore, Neto and Rui to join us. And before anyone says Fosun don't spend. They have spent 200m+ in the past 4 years. Let that sink in. Probably more than the previous 25 years.

13.) 03 Sep 2020 17:50:25
Madman. You completely missed the point. I was being sarcastic. The clue was when I said, can the usual suspects.

Wolves are not broke, far from it. Keep up! I was having a dig at the usual doom and gloom suspects.

14.) 03 Sep 2020 18:11:30
Sorry Deep Throat. Some of the posts the past 10 days have been atrocious though.
I'm back on the valium with some of the pessimists comments. :)

15.) 03 Sep 2020 19:32:22
You're welcome Madman. I agree about the atrocious posts. Some of them moaned at the start of last season about lack of Wolves signings. Like, Villa were buying all before them. (Look where Villa finished. ) . The season before they moaned that Fulham were buying all before them (Fulham blew a fortune and got relegated) . One of them even had it on good authority that there would be no takeover. Fosun took over shortly afterwards.

16.) 03 Sep 2020 20:19:51
We are fortunate Deep Throat that we have players that can play in a number of positions and I one being serious am not too concerned at the moment. There is plenty of time in this window particularly with players being away on international duty. I'm sure we will have some additions but if not go with what we have. It's been way worse than this in the past. We're Wolves we'll be fine.

17.) 03 Sep 2020 23:11:53
Madman. Yes linked until the price is revealed. Then that's it. They had their chance with the arsenal player and tried to screw them over. 20 million for a star in the making was a steal. And wolves tried to mug them further.

18.) 03 Sep 2020 23:21:14
Madman. And what have the clubs above them spent. Probably into the billion and that's why they are the big clubs. 200 million. Chicken feed.

19.) 04 Sep 2020 07:58:26
I disagree demon. I believe we get more value for money with the players we are recruiting.

Would you buy a car that you need to spend a billion pound on or a car that needs £200m that is more reliable and gets very similar results?

When you compare Wolves with Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton and Leicester it is clear our squad is competitive with those squads. If it weren't for the excellent Europa league campaign we would have finished 5th at the very least.

This is where you'll come back and say we needed to spend 200m last summer. I disagree we couldn't due to FFP or P&S and if we had got into Europe either through league, finishing 7th or winning europa we would be paying larger fines and destroying our credibility around the world. As I'm pretty sure it is frowned upon in Chinese culture to just spend like Chelsea and Man City.

And your comment about chicken feed shows your total lapse of where wolves are and where wolves are going. 6 years ago they were in league 1,4 years ago they finished 15th in the championship, for 3 straight seasons they have won championship, got to the final stages and finished 7th in the prem. And doubters out there think wolves and Fosun have given up now.

Give your heads a wobble.

20.) 04 Sep 2020 10:04:47
Madman. Some people on here don't really get it about financial rules. One guy at the start of last season talked about relegation because we weren't spending big like Villa and others. The Fosun ten year plan is viable but we have to grow organically due to our relatively small financial resources. We had surprisingly early success which led some people to want the ten year objectives delivered right here and now. Leicester won the title a few years ago, but it was mainly due to other teams under performing. Leicester didn't have the finances to kick on from there and FFP would have been an obstacle too. They also challenged hard last season but couldn't sustain it as they are still held back financially, as we are too. We are certainly on a par with the teams you mention, and there is everything to play for.

21.) 04 Sep 2020 10:15:50
Quite right Madman, good post! Also Demon as your grasp of finances is clearly so strong please explain how exactly are we supposed to put billions in when we've already been done for FFP with the spending we currently have?! As ever I realise that I'm bringing logic to a place where it clearly doesn't exist but please do take us through your accounting genius?! 🤣.

22.) 04 Sep 2020 10:38:50
Don't waste your keyboard fingers Bully. Whoever Demon is, he/ she is only a Wolves detractor not a supporter.

23.) 04 Sep 2020 18:16:37
Agreed Deep, can't help myself sometimes fella but on this one I know your spot on 👍
Ps- your whip round did make me chuckle, again very apt 🤣.

Got a funny feeling jota isn't going to sign for us.

Good signing IMO close to England call up 2 years ago.

1.) 07 Jun 2015 00:10:07
Just wanted to say we're been linked with james mcclean now I've seen this a few times in last couple of months no I genarlly think there's something in this know okay he can be a bit crazy sometimes but I'm sure kj would keep him under control as our discipline is very good but I don't care what anyone says that kid is still only 25 and has outstanding ability he can beat players score goals he's quick dynamic and can cross and ball and pretty good at set pecies okay what happens with things at Wigan are his own personally views that off the pitch from 0-90 mins onwards I will support him if we sign him because he plays for wolves the team I support and love that's just my opinion

Sorry Matt its a massive NO from me. If anyone refuses to wear the poppy on there shirt to remember the people who fought to allow us to live the way we do today then I have no respect for him and would no like him associated with our proud club.

3.) 07 Jun 2015 12:57:34
The thing is tho we would have no say on if kj wants him if he wants you've got a back him

4.) 07 Jun 2015 22:06:54
As a faithful England fan who has travelled to world cups and games abroad I can't believe the ignorance of some people regarding James Maclean not wearing a poppy. Did you not read his heartfelt open letter to fans at Wigan?
The lad is a catholic from Londonderry and had family at bloody Sunday. Wearing a symbol of respect for British forces would be a slap in the face for his family.
Would you wear a symbol of support for the Argentian Junta if you had family in the Falklands?
If anything you have to respect his character for saying it's not something he feels comfortable doing.
Just stick to football because the lad is a good player.

5.) 08 Jun 2015 09:57:19
Tommo believe it or not I am also a catholic from DERRY.

Poppy isn't a symbol of the British forces but the coalition which Irish troops were also a part of.

What the paras did on Bloody Sunday got nowt to do with remembrance Sunday.

Sorry this ain't football related and it's just my opinion. If he come I would find it hard to back him. But will always support the team and manager. If he scored I would cheer but wouldn't change how I felt.

6.) 08 Jun 2015 10:56:13
the reason mclean dosent wear a poppy is because it not only symbolises ww1 & 2, but all subsequent conflicts that british forces were involved in, including the troubles.

Talking of oldies, do you think there's any comparison in man City giving us 1mill for Steve daly and us getting fabio for 35mil? For the youngsters Daley was the next big thing, City bought him and he went no where. (1mill was record breaking stuff then) .

{Ed001's Note - Ian Rush arrived at Liverpool for a record fee for a teenager at the time, it was 3 years before he scored a goal and the scout that signed him was driven out of the club because the directors were annoyed at him wasting money on Rush.}

10.) 25 Jan 2021 22:53:32
Bully, Cookie, Richards.

11.) 26 Jan 2021 07:49:01
I would have

Bull

12.) 26 Jan 2021 08:57:24
Ed-Remember seeing Rush score a late winner for Liverpool reserves at Wolves in the old Central league-November 1980, think that may have been one of his first goals.

{Ed001's Note - it would have been, yes. Strange to think his signing was probably the beginning of Liverpool's downfall, as the scout that was driven out of the club is arguably the greatest of all time, Geoff Twentyman. After he left recruitment was patchy at best. The thing that made him so good is that he would talk to the players that were signed on his recommendation, help them through bad patches etc. Before recommending a player he would meet their family and speak to their friends and away fans of the club they played for. I think Silva is a similar problem, huge talent there but he is out of his depth at the age he is and it could destroy his career if Wolves aren't careful. He needs individual mentoring, like Rush got from Twentyman.}

13.) 26 Jan 2021 12:52:06
Ed oo1 - interesting thoughts on Liverpool/ Rush and Silva. Completely agree we need to be v careful in his handling as it is unfair on him to be trying to play at a level he patently cant. But maybe two years away from the spotlight and he will come back as a player.
Abby although Daley faded v badly and the fee was shockingly high for the time he was an establish and highly talented pro at Wolves - over 200 games and 6 caps at England B level- when we sold him so no I don't think you can draw comparisons.

{Ed001's Note - youth development is a tough one, some players need to be thrown in and struggle to make them realise that they still need to work hard to make it. Others can fall apart. Personally I am of the throw em in and see. If the pressure makes them crumble now, they are unlikely to be much use when you need them.}

14.) 26 Jan 2021 14:00:06
Well I never knew he made those appearance thefutureisgold, I just remember him as a sub. I was too excited that the fee offset our outlay for Andy Gray.

15.) 26 Jan 2021 14:15:18
Ed - you are a hard man. But probably correct.
Abby you are also correct it was a huge fee for what was a good but not great player - offsetting the fee for Gray who was a genuine star.
Sadly we didn't manage to exploit his talents for long though (League cup final win aside) and we sold him v cheaply to Everton who did!

{Ed001's Note - you have to be ruthless, that is how to be successful. That was what made Paisley more successful than Shankly. Throwing them in at the deep end does help them too, because it gives them experience which then leads to their value being higher if they do not make the grade with you. A player with 10 first team appearances in the Prem is worth more than the same player who has only ever played in the reserves or out on loan in the lower leagues. They get a higher wage as a consequence and the transfer fee is higher, so their 5% cut of the fee is more.}

16.) 26 Jan 2021 14:35:11
Just looked daley up he was about 26 when he left us, I thought he was only about 19/ 20. The pogoing punk era obviously damaged my memories, so no not really comparable.

17.) 26 Jan 2021 14:37:03
Is the 3 to be how they were at Wolves or how they were at their best. For example we had Emlyn Hughes who was a superstar of the game but was def on the down slope when he came to Wolves.
I'm going to assume at their best.
Also I am taking into account the current needs of the squad not just who were the best 3 in my time.
So replacing LWB, CM and CF
Terry Cooper - actually never played a game for Wolves but was here as a kid For the non oldies amongst you he was so good he would challenge Ashley Cole and Kenny Sansom as best left back of my lifetime in England. Would fit our 343 style perfectly as well.
Paul Ince one of the best CM's in the game ever!
John Richards - eases out Keane, Gray and Bull to be our CF due to his goal scoring record in the top division.

18.) 26 Jan 2021 15:04:13
Ed you are def correct there. We sold Keane for pennies ( well £5m) because he hadn't played in the top division. But look what Liverpool got for players like Jordan Ibe and Dom Solanke.

{Ed001's Note - United did it all the time when Fergie was in charge, it was a very good money maker for them.}

Playing devils advocate

Bring in Douglas Costa and Christian Erikson
As a manager what would you do?
As a super agent what would you do?

1.) 24 Jan 2021 18:07:07
So you lose £60kish from the wage budget and replace it with an extra £500k a week?! I get ya idea but I think you need to try playing the accountant before advocate! 👍.

2.) 24 Jan 2021 18:08:49
I've just read an article suggesting those two will be signed. Good players but would want astronomical wages.

3.) 24 Jan 2021 18:19:33
Desperate times seek desperate measures.
We can’t have paid 35 million for Fabio without expecting a favour back from somewhere.

4.) 24 Jan 2021 19:13:39
Bully’s Boy
The accontant will be sharpening his pencil if we go down:

5.) 24 Jan 2021 19:20:10
Eriksen is old and Costa supposedly hasn't been as good as he was and that's not even getting into how much of a waste in wages it would be.

6.) 24 Jan 2021 19:31:50
Funny reading above posts. Good banter. Would I swap Traore for Eriksson and Costa? Don't think I would. I think we're done with signing kids for a while but then signing overpaid players that are past their best as an alternative is not the way forward either. Somewhere in between would be nice. 🤣.

7.) 24 Jan 2021 19:40:26
Sharesum - spot on! Fingers crossed the club thinks the same.

8.) 24 Jan 2021 19:41:43
Good banter Traore it is then
So playing devils advocate
Nuno or Rafa Benetez.

9.) 24 Jan 2021 19:44:08
Lingard on loan and Cantwell on a perm.

10.) 24 Jan 2021 19:52:07
Cantwell
100 per cent.

11.) 24 Jan 2021 20:17:53
Yeah I agree with Shares, it's middle ground that we need not mercenaries! I think Jose will hopefully be a step in the right direction. I don't want us to get rid of Nuno but with each game I fear it will be taken out of the clubs hands. The man looks broken and having read the article on the Athletic its not hard to see why. I fear this whole situation will result in Nuno working closer to home this time next year but I hope I'm wrong.
As for Rafa no thanks, I really don't get how his credit is still so high with fans. He plays dull, statistic lead football and has never shown any passion for any club he's worked with, well not beyond his bank balance anyway! He got Newc back up BUT with a Prem quality team and seemed to get a lot of praise for keeping them up but was his team worse than Burnleys or Sheff Utds?! He certianly had far more wage budget than Dyche or Wilder has ever had the pleasure of having yet Rafa gets more plaudits?! As for signings I would take Cantwell off what others have said (as I've not seen him this season) . And I do remember him scoring well on average distance covered in a match when playing in the Prem and we could use a bit more of that right now! I don't mind Lingard but I suspect he's on a big wage compared to most of ours and I'm not sure he actually brings us much that we don't already have right now?! We need a CM and a CB for me, if peeps think Cantwell can fill the CM role then that'll do nicely. I'd sooner have Buendia but I suspect he's about double the price so unlikely 👍.

12.) 24 Jan 2021 20:20:52
For me. Keep traore. And get eriksen
And Costa, 👍👍👍👍.

13.) 24 Jan 2021 21:03:53
for the right price Traore could go, but I don't see the point in replacing him with Costa on much higher wages, he had chance to come here before but snubbed us from what I gather.
Now with a forward who seems to have to goods in the air it may help Traore pick his game up a bit, knowing he has something to aim for in the box when he beats his man.
I believe his biggest issue this year is, he has seen Doc and Jota go to bigger clubs and bigger wages, and his head has been messed with by his agent.
Him and Doc had a great partner ship on the right for us last season, be god to see him regain some of that form again with Semedo.

14.) 24 Jan 2021 21:14:26
Realist- I agree fella the accountants would be sharping their pencils in that scenario. But then imagine a scenario where we go down with both those players tied to their astronimical contacts! Forget accountants, repo men are sharpening pencils at that stage! 👍.

15.) 24 Jan 2021 21:15:50
Just share something with you all
There was a youngster playing for man city, called Tommy Doyle, I used to live next door but one to his grandad, who was Glyn pardoe, who recently passed away, really nice person and not a bad player, I remember him coming home one day with his leg in plaster after he broke it in a tackle, anyone remember who it was that tackled him?
Also in our town was Alan oakes,
And remember our keeper Michael oakes, memory lane 👍.

16.) 24 Jan 2021 21:44:41
Hi Greylegwolf
I think I remember it was a tackle with George Best, I remember Michael oaks thought he was a very decent keeper. Mike Bailey was a good friend of my neighbor I lived next door to in Gorleston Wouldn’t mind Cantwell would give our midfield a bit of zest and energy if allowed to, what do you think?

17.) 24 Jan 2021 22:17:58
Hi Norfolk your correct it was George best, remember mike bailey, sound,
Cantwell, yes he fits our bill mate.
Yes need someone dynamic in midfield
Going back to Glyn pardoe, he new I supported wolves, everytime we played at Maine rd, he brought tickets to our house, so have special place in my heart for him. 👍.

18.) 24 Jan 2021 22:40:42
Nuno over Benitez, hands down. I'll never forget how he and Lascelles handled the Shelvey racist comment ban saying it was a disgrace and that Wolves should be punished over our fans abuse of Shelvey in the following match at Molineux. He lost all credibility with me in that moment.

19.) 25 Jan 2021 09:51:16
Cantwell does seem a good call, but as other posters say wages are a key issue whoever signs. let's assume fans aren't allowed in grounds anytime soon in which case a quiet transfer window in the summer could be on the cards. Expensive assets that need selling in a firesale in the event of relegation, and I'm afraid it is possible at the moment, are going to have to be sold off very cheaply I fear.

20.) 25 Jan 2021 11:11:03
Hi Greylegwolf,
It’s really great to have these memories, I met Joe Mercer when he presented the medals after a cup final at dare I say? No I won’t . somewhere in the midlands around 1962. Went to a open day at the Mol beat West Ham I think 4-2 met some of the players great memories, all the best.

21.) 25 Jan 2021 14:40:29
No Lingard Rated mate don't want any Man Utd cast offs.

{Ed001's Note - please don't use 'Manure' to refer to Man Utd les. It originates from a line is a song that West Brom fans used to sing about the Munich Air Disaster.}

22.) 25 Jan 2021 16:07:09
Sorry Ed didn't know that won't happen again just can't stand Man U its all l hear living in Buxton.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, it does not seem to be widely known. I only know about it as our Man Utd editor explained it all to me.}

23.) 25 Jan 2021 18:52:03
Hi Norfolk les greyleg, Yellowstone, Sir Tatton,
My team manager as a kid was 'H' George Showell brother, that's the connection to Norman Deeley.
I posted a while back Norman Deeley took some training sessions for my team. I remember one of you guys telling me his nickname was the penguin.
Just thought it might bring fond memories to whom it may concern.
Much respect for the knowledge of elder generations. 😀.
