Would love Renato Sanchez to join this window but I think that depends on whether or not AC Milan have to replace Frank Kessie. If he doesn't leave then I think we might have a chance of signing Sanchez.
Another really good option would be Sergei Milinkovic Slavic from Lazio. Dendonker with wing mirrors and a real upgrade, especially in the goal scoring stakes. Could be costly but Lazio have previously been interested in Dendonker and a swap deal might be a possibility with us paying an additional £10 million plus. Still relatively young at 26 and with the sort of game that would suit the Premier League. Very similar to Soucek at West Ham.
Milinkovic Savic scored twice today against Empoli, for whom Cutrone did not feature in either starting eleven or the subs! Hope that doesn't signal another return Compton.

He was omitted for 'personal reasons ', Wolfwhistle.

2.) 07 Jan 2022 09:18:01
Scot Sellars said “It’s hard to predict what happens in any transfer window, but it’s certain that we won’t bring in a large number of new signings" so to me this says it doesn't rule out signings, just not a large number. Maybe a marquee signing a la a Renato Sanchez.

In all reality, what is the point in having a youth team system if the shining stars cannot get a crack of the whip? I'm glad the younger guys are getting the opportunity.

I did attempt to post the whole SS statement previously, but it wasn't approved by one of the Eds, which is fair enough as it was quite large.

3.) 08 Jan 2022 04:03:24
Sorry but I have to say, we ain't getting Savic! No offence Wolf but you talk about him like he's some unknown gem in the Champ when in reality he's been one of the most talked about CM's in Europe for the last 3-5 years! Pretty sure he made the last Euro Dream team (maybe as a sub) but the idea that we'd get him for Dendoncker + £10m is laughable! This is a £65m+ who is on about £120-150k already where he is!
I'm not having a go cause don't get me wrong I'd LOVE to see us sign him! But as I've said before one or two on here need to be a little more self aware of the realities of our position. Both as a club and in the transfer/wages market ?

First week in October and Renato Sanchez back playing for Lille. Took a lot of criticism when I suggested we should have completed the deal for him when we had the chance. Admit he returned ahead of schedule, hopefully he doesn't suffer any setback and we can complete a transfer early in January.

1.) 07 Oct 2021 22:54:17
Easy to say now but let's wait and see if he's still fit come Jan first eh. These things are all relative, if someone had bought Jonny just after his 'recovery' they'd be feeling fairly silly right now! ?.

2.) 17 Oct 2021 15:09:21
Interesting that he's back suggests media reports don't know the full story. As I am sure Sky were the ones reporting expected return was 12 weeks.

Looking at the transfer window now I don't think the club did awful.
They brought Trincao in to support Netos absence.
They brought Hwang Hee-Chan to take the pressure off Traore and Raul.
And the team are all getting back into a normal rhythm. With return of Raul, Boly, Podence and Marcal.
And Jonny and Neto to return at some point.
Lille stopped Botman and Sanches leaving not Wolves or the players makes things interesting as maybe our reputation has improved more than we think for the future.

Haissem Hassan anyone? 24 years old, plays for Real Oviedo in Spanish second tier. Display against Argentina is unreal.

Wolfthistle

1.) 08 Jul 2026 10:07:06
So was the officiating, Wolfthistle. You can well understand the Egyptians claiming bias after that game. Just another in an increasingly long line of controversies whenever FIFA are involved.

2.) 08 Jul 2026 12:09:43
FIFA, VAR, Financial Fair Play. It feels like football is becoming scripted. I've been falling out of love with the game for a while, but certain club competitions, and this World Cup, feel like the path to the final is being operated like a WWE fight, where the winners and losers are known in advance by the money people.

This World Cup feels like the one where FIFA have finally truly revealed that sporting integrity has completely gone from football.

3.) 08 Jul 2026 12:11:45
I thought the Egyptians played well, and the decisions were not fair; the disallowed goal surely was scored too long after the very slight foul.
You have to wonder if it had been for Argentina, if the goal would have been given.

Hassan looked a fantastic player. Will we be making more signings though? Gone very quiet. Hope the positive start to the summer has not been a flash in the pan. ??

4.) 08 Jul 2026 12:56:37
Not just the shirt pull before the disallowed 'goal', Banksy, I thought from the off that the ref was showing a level of 'bias'. Little things like nudges, backing in, obstruction, and a blatant throw-in given the wrong way.
Egypt's given goals couldn't be questioned; superb breaks and finishing. Shame it went the way it did.

5.) 08 Jul 2026 13:06:56
FIFA is disgraceful. The suspension of the red card was allegedly the decision of an 'independent body', according to FIFA. Nothing to do with pressure from the American president! Ridiculous. A farce.

There is a sting in this tale now.

If there is such an independent body, England can appeal to that body for the suspension of the red card against us. The precedent has been established. Get the lawyers on it, Tuchel.

6.) 08 Jul 2026 13:14:14
FIFA have made it pretty clear that they really don't care how corrupt things look to us average fans. The France v Morocco game is a huge one for the World Cup, which will have an impact on Argentina's chances to win the tourney. So what does FIFA do? They give it an entirely Argentinian refereeing team. What a bizarre choice to make.

I don't think it is a conspiracy, but it seems like a very odd decision to make for the integrity of the comp, to have just one game where all the officials come from the same country. It just screams of an organisation (FIFA) that's given up caring about the competition looking like it has any genuine integrity! ?

7.) 08 Jul 2026 16:23:54
An entirely Argentinian refereeing team might (even subconsciously) favour Morocco over the favourites, France, to eliminate the chance of France playing Argentina in the final. Many decisions so far have not been merely subconsciously biased but have been blatantly biased, in my opinion.

8.) 09 Jul 2026 22:05:02
How are people surprised at the level of corruption when Infantino and Trump are involved?

Watched U23 team on Monday night. Highly entertaining game against Fulham, who prior to the game were unbeaten and top of the league. Unsurprisingly we came under a lot of pressure having taken an early lead. Got a second late in the game and despite Fulham scoring in extra time, we held on for the win.
Players who caught the eye:
Chem Campbell probably stole the headlines with a brilliant run and shot to set up the first and a good strike for the second
In between however I thought he, plus most of the others did not look after the ball very well when we gained possession. The two standouts for me were Lewis Richards, who is a strong lad for his age, who showed good control and more importantly good decision making. Played football when opportunity arose but cleared his lines when it was required.
However the best player on the park that night was Raphael Nua. Faultless display of controlled, intelligent defending. Too many good aspects to his performance that it could not possibly be a one off. Hopefully, one for the future.

Great Post Wolfwhistle?.

2.) 22 Sep 2021 17:00:07
Not sure nuno will field a weakened side like many seem to think. They're already somewhat weakened with injuries and nuno is already coming under pressure. With arsenal coming up next, he'll be going for a win tonight, so expect a strong spurs side. That said, we've proved we can more than match them so I think our boys will be desperate to put Brentford behind us. If spurs are not fully at it, then I think we can get a convincing win. 3 or 4 -1.
Should be a cracking game. If spurs are "at it" then we could be seeing a penalty shootout.
Anyway. Enjoy everyone. COYW.

28 Jun 2021 17:15:15
No Traore in Spain's match day 26 man squad! . Suits me, as I'm always wary of a brilliant display, which his cameo appearance last time out, certainly wasn't, will attract bids. Need him to stay.
Euros is a an opportunity for players to put themselves in the window. Erato Sanchez did that as did Palhina. If we are genuinely interested in either or both then I suggest we move quickly with realistic bids.

Wolfthistle

{Ed077's Note - 23 man squad you mean :-)}

1.) 29 Jun 2021 11:19:17
Well that's vintniha, going back,
Hope that means palhinia signing 🤔🤔, and Harry winks, is a possibility, 😮😮.

2.) 29 Jun 2021 19:46:06
Couldn’t agree more GLW, I think Vitinha might have a decent future but for the next few years is going to be lightweight for the Premier League. I would pay a bit extra and take the punt on Palhinha especially as Sporting are still alleged to be very interested in Vinagre. It’s important to me that we see the Board extracting some good deals and I agree with other posters that we shouldn’t be paying such a high premium for potential.

3.) 29 Jun 2021 19:54:07
And if Elanga is available at a relatively low price I’d certainly spend my pocket money on him. He showed enough raw talent in one match to suggest a project worthy of showing just how good Lage’s team might be in developing young prospects.

4.) 29 Jun 2021 22:58:07
NES - excellent point re Vinagre and swap with Palhinha.
If Palhinha is a player you like and he certainly seems to fit a need we have for a CM then it makes sense.

Gather they want £30m, (£10m more than the Vitor fee), but maybe we can shave that differential and then pay some of the total fee if not a lot of it with Vinagre.
Net net even £10m more for an established and seemingly good international player over an unproven kid is surely a no brainer but if it is less and a chunk of the fee can be paid via a swap then it is not a hard decsion in my view.

As I said at the time it was merely a press article about Elanga - I have no inside info from Old Trafford ( there is a surprise! ) - that said he may be allowed to leave if they sign a new wide forward - Sancho?

His value was again from press speculation. When you see what he did against us and compare it to the lads we have been linked with/ signed Vitor, Silva etc you could add quite a few million to that fee and it would still look like value?

After an injury hit season, which has seen him miss twelve games in a row, Leonardo Campana is back featuring for Famalicao. After a couple of substitute appearances he has started the last two games and has scored twice and claimed an assist.
Famalicao are in a tight relegation battle in Portugal and he may well have a key role to play over the next few weeks. Worth keeping an eye on, with a view to him returning next year.
Yesterday also saw Otasowie turn out for U23s. Read into that what you want but hopefully a chance to get some much needed minutes into his legs to ready him for a first team outing on Monday. He looked a class above fellow and opposition players and is undoubtedly something we don't presently have an athletic, forward looking midfielder. Needs to improve his finishing, as we have already seen, with more precision he could easily have had a hatrick against Norwich U23s.

Wolfthistle

1.) 27 Apr 2021 09:55:15
Nice one. wolfthistle, both players would improve our present first team at the moment, as would kilman and hoover,
Time for change.

2.) 27 Apr 2021 10:33:20
I'm a big fan of corbanu (? Spelling) from what I've seen of him. Surely the likes of him should be given an opportunity now. That said do we want a result against baggies or trials? I would hope 1st team players will want to prove a point after Sunday and I want 3 against the tesco lot.

3.) 27 Apr 2021 12:39:25
Piont is Abbywolf after Sundays shambles playing without Jose would be an improvement whoever comes in, for me he's had his chance it time to look elsewhere.
Also another thought was giving coady a go in midfield, his passing is good and he might nick the odd goal and he can tackle?

4.) 27 Apr 2021 14:25:11
Agree regards jose Pedro but I reckon he must have an appearance clause in his contract or he wouldn't have lasted this long. At the beginning I thought he'd be a distraction taking defenders off neto and adama but he just lumbers around dosnt jump and is reluctant to get involved, he stood and watched Burnleys 3rd. I personally think coady will be essential at the back against baggies, he seemed very quiet vocally Sunday and seiss and boly were positioned wrong. The midfield (granted no moutininho) was poor, dendonker looked lost. But putting coady in there wouldn't help. Vininta (sorry spelling again) would be my choice, he can go forward but holding/ tracking back a lot to learn. I think it'll be rui, samedo, boly, coady, seiss, ran, dendonker moutininho, neves, podence, adama, unless Jose has to play!? . With fabio, mgw, vininta joining later again barring injuries.

5.) 27 Apr 2021 14:57:13
My selection for what it’s worth.

Patricio
Boly. Coady. Kilman
Semedo. Ait Nouri

Neves
Dendonker. Moutinho

Vitinha

Silva.

6.) 27 Apr 2021 15:15:32
I like that look lupine.

7.) 27 Apr 2021 16:54:55
The players on the bench must be wondering what they have to do to get a game especially the way we have been playing. Hoever Kilman and Vitinha should be given a run of games and Otasowie also, they couldn’t be worse than what we have been of late and would have a point to prove. Don’t know where the goals are coming from though.

8.) 27 Apr 2021 17:16:22
Performances have been poor but I think against Baggies you'll see some much improved performances as more than half the regular starters have something to prove.

Patricio, Neves, Semedo, Moutinho and Podence are looking to cement their places in the Portugal squad for the Euros as well as Coady for England, Adama for Spain and Dendoncker for Belgium.

Only Patricio and Moutinho are guaranteed their places so it's time for the others to step up.

9.) 27 Apr 2021 17:36:19
Jas,
For the first time under nuno I have major doubts for our next game.
Keep posting pal even I need a gee up and you have just given me one. I haven't lost faith in nuno and fosun but I'm losing faith with the players after Sunday's no show.
Maybe I will start feeling back to normal later on in the week.
I checked and we are on sky sports.
Perfect outcome we win and you and your mrs can settle for 1 win a piece this season.

10.) 27 Apr 2021 18:11:35
My team for Monday:

Patricio

Boly Coady Kilman

Hoever Dendoncker Neves RAN

Otasowie

Traore. Corbeanu.

11.) 28 Apr 2021 11:03:58
I'd go for a slightly controversial team against the baggies because I can see Big Sam trying to set them up like Burnley and they need the 3 points more than us (although local pride is at stake) . We seemed to be completely outnumbered mainly out wide (although we were that bad is was like Burnley had 2 extra players for the whole game) . I'd try an old fashioned 4-4-2:

Patricio
Hoever Boly Saiss RAN
Traore Coady Neves Podence
Jose Silva.

23 Feb 2021 15:07:30
Just saw a review of our loaned out players performance this weekend. Most successful player this year is Tote Gomes, defender at Grasshoppers.
One player missing was Christian Herc, still our player and scoring goals from midfield for Czech top tier side Karvina. West Ham have recruited well from that league.
Interesting player to keep an eye on is not one of ours. 24 year old, Portuguese speaking, goal scoring midfielder, voted Portuguese League 2 player of the year last season and now captaining his side, Farnese in their top tier. Ryan Gauls!

Wolfthistle

1.) 23 Feb 2021 20:43:48
Sorry typo - Ryan Gauld.

2.) 24 Feb 2021 10:18:17
Think there's one reason Nuno sends players out on loan, i. e. he doesn't rate them! Can't think of any that have come back and got in the team. Possibly last player to do so, Matt Doherty, banished off to Hibs and Bury in 12/ 13 ( by Mad Mick) returned to play 300+ games! Legend FWAW.

3.) 24 Feb 2021 16:01:43
Agree Preston, it certainly looks that way. Difference with Gomes is that Nuno has probably never seen him, given that he went straight to Grasshoppers from Portugal. Also if what you are saying is the case, it is somewhat shortsighted, given that many young players benefit hugely from playing against lower league first teams, as opposed to youngsters in the academy teams. Dion Sanderson appears to be gaining in confidence through a run of games as a centre back with Sunderland. Most centre backs tend to come into their prime in their mid twenties, so he has time on his side. Sunderland fans comparing him to a previous loanee of theirs: Johnny Evans from Manchester United. Would have a pretty good career if he turned out to be any where near as good as him. He is still best centre back Man Utd haven’t got. Would certainly walk into their team today.
List of top players who have benefited from loans is too long to mention, so I hope do try to use the system to develop future first team players. If not it seems a bit of a waste of a salary having a Head of Loans Department!

4.) 24 Feb 2021 20:17:23
Totally agree, don't think Dion has played any where near half the games for Sunderland, this season. Not sure why. Would rather see some of our talented youngsters in the first team, rather than loaned out! Especially in CMF where we have major problems. FWAW.

5.) 25 Feb 2021 11:41:33
Can I ask Preston why, if as you say we have major problems in CM, you think Vitor, a supposedly £20m rated CM, is not getting any minutes?
Any one else got a view as well?

6.) 25 Feb 2021 17:26:11
Don’t want to jinx us given that we are not yet mathematically safe but recruitment team, whoever that is, should be planning for next season. This year can best be described as one where we have taken stock. There are a small, and I would contend rapidly decreasing, number of players who are automatic starters in our first eleven. Some of those may not be regarded as such come September.
Question that those in charge should be asking is, at what level would the individuals in our present first team squad, be guaranteed starters. If we split premier league into top six, middle eight and bottom six, and the Championship into top half and bottom half, League One and League Two. Probably worth throwing in Spanish, Italian and Portuguese leagues as some of our players may well do better there than in our domestic leagues
If, as Fosun have stated, we are looking to be a top six side, then some difficult decisions are going to have to be made at the end of this season. Some of our fringe players or younger players may well benefit from being on loan at the start of next season. One such is Dion Sanderson, I would say Championship top half (loan)
Would be interesting exercise for some of our regular posters to say at which level they would see our fringe squad players being automatic starters next season.
Kilman, Coady: Premier bottom 6
Ait Nouri (loan) Otasowie (loan) . MGW, Fabio Silva (loan) Championship top half
Vitinha, Moutinho: Portugal
Neves Jose: Spain/ Italy
Saiss: France.

7.) 25 Feb 2021 18:44:50
Wolfthistle - excellent post

Will give it some thought!
be interested to hear your 9nd everyone else's ) views on entire squad but with only England as what does Vitor Portugal mean - does he stay or does he go?
Pretty sure I won't have too many to p6 sadly!

8.) 25 Feb 2021 21:29:25
Patricio - middle 8 but given age possibly morphing to bottom 6 next year
Ruddy - top half championship
Semedo - middle 8 ( with potential to go to top 6)
Hoever -top half championship (hopefully top 6 in time)
Boly - top 6
Coady middle 8
Saiss middle 8
Kilman middle 8
RAN - top half championship (with potential to become Prem player)
Marcal - middle 8 ( if fit)
Dendonker - middle 8
Neves - middle 8 ( sorry to slow and doesn't do enough going forwards to be top 6)
Moutinho bottom 6 ( due to age)
Owen - top half championship (def possible Prem player but only seen a handful of times)
MGW - top half Championship (not making progress and may not make it to Prem)
Vitor - top half Championship (Sorry but like Owen has only played in a handful of games and then only cameos. There must be a reason for this)
Neto top 6 (still raw but huge potential)
Podence middle 8 (but could become top 6)
Traore top 6 (with top 6 ref protection and better support would terrorise any defence)
Jimenez top 6 (class act! )
Jose bottom 6 (but might be middle 8)
Fabio Silva League 1 ( but worried it might be to physical for him - unless he makes dramatic physical improvements I am worried re his future. )

9.) 26 Feb 2021 18:10:32
Really interesting exercise that, and I might try doing the same on the Villa site.
I’m surprised you only rate Ait Nouri as Championship level currently. I watched most of Angers games the 2 seasons prior to this one, and I always thought RAN was their most talented player.
Do Wolves have an obligation to buy him at the end of the season or is it optional?

10.) 26 Feb 2021 23:13:33
Mark - delighted you think so I thought Wolfthistle's suggestion was a good one as well and so responded!
Re RAN Don't know how much of his time you have seen at Wolves.
He is quite good going forwards but awful (really awful) defensively.
[Will be castigated by "true fans" for that as well! ]
Comparing him to Matt Targett he is sadly a v poor second both ways!
But he is young and may develop - although of course as with all young players he may well not.
Doubt we will find out though as for £20m we should be able to buy a far better ready made player - as you did with Matty Cash.
Plus with Otto, Marcal (injuries permitting) Saiss and quite possibly Vinagre coming back as we can't find anyone willing to buy him despite there not being too much difference between him and RAN in potential he would be competing for 4th LB in the squad. Don't think we can have a £20m fourth/ fifth choice!

11.) 27 Feb 2021 12:23:32
Thanks for replying Tfig, I think RAN will improve defensively, it was never really an issue at Angers, and it’s perhaps just a case of adjusting to the intensity of the English game.
A season ago I, along with most Villa supporters, were wandering why we shelled out 15 million or so for Matt Targett. Defensively he was pretty atrocious at times.
This season however, he unrecognizable from the last, and most of us agree he is our most improved player, and I would go as far to say, he might have an outside chance of making the Euros. I’m sure RAN will improve, he’s got plenty of time to do so, but admittedly 20 million is a big steep, somewhere between 10-15, and I think he would be worth the gamble.

If we are looking for a wide player in January, then a loan deal for Ben Gannon-Doak from Bournemouth would be a brilliant deal for all parties. As a Scot, Inwant to see him getting more game time, which doesn't appear to be forthcoming at his present club.

I presume, as a free agent, Traore is able to train with us pending him officially signing, once a space in the squad has been created. Is this correct?
If so, he could be available for the Sheffield game. A place on the bench would make sense.

Traore has just completed a medical and signed for one year, with the option of a second if we are promoted.
Who is out the door? Likely to be Santiago Bueno, which is my preferred option. He struggles for pace, which could be exposed in the back four.
As for Traore, it looks a really good move.

Very good finisher. Watch his goals, including ten for Villa - he passes the ball into the net. Injury disrupted his time at Sunderland last season and led to his release. Window is looking so much better with the last three additions!

Enso Gonzales remains at the club and is getting game time with the U21 side. He apparently starred in their latest game, and is someone, once he builds up match fitness and strength after a torrid time with injuries, who could provide competition for the wide right position.

It was confusing, as Munetsi didn't leave the field after lengthy treatment in the first half. Did ref just lose the plot or is there a different rule for head injuries?

Loads of positives tonight.
Virginia, Konan, Boubacar Traore, Neave, Bellegarde. Djiga. Not many of those are starters but they certainly all put themselves in the frame. As well as positives there were some question marks. Thought Toti was too easily turned for the goal.

Not seen anything from Jordan James yet and tonight's performance raised more questions than answers from him. Trippier is class and will be key player, if we are to mount a challenge.
I think some of those who impressed tonight could well have a massive impact off the bench on Sunday.

In order to include Traore, we need to lose one player presently in squad. Beggars can be choosers, and it may well depend on who, out of Santiago Bueno and Bellegarde, attracts interest. Given that buying club can do the math, we are going to have to settle for a loan with option. Not ideal, but the result of little interest being shown in those surplus to requirements.
I would prefer to keep Bellegarde. I think he has shown glimpses in the past of being able to create opportunities by his willingness to carry the ball from central positions.

He played that role for Haiti in the World Cup, and is more effective there than when deployed wide.
It's a bit of a concern that we have had to settle for loans with those who have been shipped out. Hopefully they will play well enough to attract offers next year. Certainly don't want any returning irrespective of the league we are in (unless it's League One!!!!).

May be seen as sacrilege, but Raul is so far off the pace!
Defence is so shaky. If Krejci is staying, he has to start next game ahead of Toti. I thought Bueno did a good job against Bowen, who was quiet, and Djiga looks more than capable.

Tchatchoa looked far better on the front foot than he has done previously.
Desperately need to sort how we defend at corners. We look like conceding every time the opposition has a set piece in our final third.
