Hughie Curran RIP

As a kid in the late 60s my Uncle and I used to attend games at Molineux. After the game we used to walk down the alley to Waterloo Road and hope to see players coming from the main entrance, for autographs etc and you could have a good natter with some of them. One chap we saw walking towards us in a dark raincoat was Hugh Curran. We politely stopped him for a minute, he signed the programme and we chatted.

He was a friendly, affable chap and as a player he never gave less than 100%. Saw him score some cracking goals, his timing and powerful heading ability was superb. I'll always remember Hughie, just for the fact that he stopped to spend time with a young fan, it made my day. Thank you Mr Curran, for all of the great qualities you had as player and as a fine human being.

RIP Hugh Curran.

A little shocked to read this this morning. Hughie Curran R.I.P.
Despite knowing him at Wolves, he also played at Oxford and subsequently ran a couple of pubs near me. He happily chatted and signed one of the Wolves books in my collection, but I spent an evening chatting to him at a birthday party we were both invited to.

He was entertaining and reminisced about his time at Molineux and as an international for Scotland.
His memories weren't maybe as I recalled, and he openly admitted that a fan's view wasn't always the same as a player's.
A very amicable man who was perhaps underrated at times. God's rest, and all thoughts, of course, to family and friends.

Rest in Peace. Phil Parkes. 'Lofty'.

Goalkeeper and great bloke.

Met him on a number of occasions, really a great man, and a great goalkeeper of his time, RIP Phil Parkes. ?

2.) 09 Aug 2026 10:10:33
Very sad news. My dad always raved about how good Phil Parkes was as a goalkeeper. Alas, I am too young to have seen him play, but I did come across him in the local cricket scene, having played against his sons on a few occasions. Such a character and a fierce competitor. RIP Lofty.

Hi,
Well I just found out, through research, what I had suspected all along.
'Molineux News', the site owned by GRV Media, is no more. They were reported to Google on multiple occasions and 'punished' because of their 'consistent use of spam' and other related aspects. They cut their workforce by a third and this has forced them to change 'priorities'.

So, the lie that was told about having "exclusive Wolves supporting journalists"(usually pictured at Old Trafford or Elland Road (where students of journalism can be based), was that all along. Obviously, there has been nothing from them for months and an article in "The Press Gazette" in December, forecasted this.

It has been a pet peeve of mine because I never believed their schtick all along, yet they were often quoted as being 'relevant' and 'reliable'. Even on this site people quoted them and I think this raises a broader question. While there are Wolves fans who do a great job on youtube etc, the danger is that unless the source is reliable and the messenger is genuine, then we can all be fooled, especially where big conglomerates claim to be 'supporters'!

This is why I cross reference things with other sources before I post them, mate.

Interesting, but unless I am looking in the wrong places, or the heat has got to me, the notorious "Molineux News" has disappeared. These are the company who claimed "our journalists are all 'wolves experts', and also, Man U, Man C, West Ham etc etc. Odd that!!

Molineux News is part of GRV Media Limited, and is in excellent financial shape according to filings at Companies House.

2.) 11 Jul 2026 08:37:41
Don't know anything about Molineux News, but just typed in 'Molineux News' and, lo and behold, the site loaded.

P.S. According to them, we still own Emmanuel Agbadou.

Harvey Elliott.. My mistake.

So, the lad was on loan from Liverpool to Villa. I cannot understand that one at all.

I would take Elliot on loan anytime with obligation to buy 25mill if promoted. Been in Championship before being loaned to Sheff United.

{Ed001's Note - Blackburn, he spent a season on loan at Rovers.}

2.) 26 Jun 2026 20:48:16
Sorry Edoo1, my mistake. Still think good enough for Wolves.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, just my pedantry cutting in.}

3.) 26 Jun 2026 22:10:40
Seems to be the new 'in word' for Ed001, Bully's boy II and Whataload.
I need to check my dictionary! ?

Speaking of Harvey Elliott, I can't believe that lad has sat out almost a whole EPL season, but the way Villa have done it, you can't fault the manager's decisions. Surely that's going to affect his future? Unless, of course, he has been on loan and I never noticed. I don't keep up too much these days. It gives me a headache.

Louis Leroux...documentaries... I flipping love that one. ???

Must be the heat. I misquoted a rumour site.

It actually said... "the rumour may not align with the truth".

Could be good.

Saw a line on one of the rumour sites about a player.

Quote: "The reality may not align with the truth."

Who knew?

Just asking, but which journalists or 'sources' do folks find most reliable? And, by contrast, which ones are not trustworthy at all?

Well, I only counted 9 players in Banksy's list, so looks like they might as well send us straight to National League North..... ? ?

That was a good team. I really enjoyed watching them, starting in the 67 season. I remember John Holsgrove, very tall, and a good partnership with Dave 'Duggie' Woodfield. We have had some great central defenders over the years.

The next one to arrive was Frank Munro, what a clever player he was. My uncle and I met Hughie Curran in Waterloo Road after one game. He was good to chat to. Those early days were good.

I watched a few Ligue 1 games on the TV last season, and it's a high standard. I think some of these folks who talk about the EPL being the best league, need to give their heads a wobble.

Been hearing it since 1992. It may have been, but I think it's open to debate. It's more like an expensive slot machine now, you put your money in... and in... and in... and you don't get much back.
