Watching England, which I rarely do As I am getting on and time is valuable. Can someone please advise me as to why Maguire is in this team?

1.) 23 Mar 2024 21:10:04
Southgate’s love child maybe

2.) 23 Mar 2024 21:41:33
He must have some dirt on Southgate. Why else would he continually be picked.

On another note, we'll done to Joao Gomes on his debut. Looked good in the middle of the park. The 1st of hopefully many more caps.

3.) 23 Mar 2024 21:57:02
Southgate's favourite. Apparently he plays well with Stones. Thought he was poor again tonight and a poor back pass nearly cost us. Bin him.

4.) 23 Mar 2024 22:59:58
Jas, according to the match report on BBC, Joao was voted Man of the Match

5.) 24 Mar 2024 06:34:49
Watched some of the game last night, but like most fans, not enthused. I feel we are missing an opportunity. We have a choice of players with the ability to win the Euros comfortably.
Sadly we don't have a manager to make the most of the great talent available.
Not using a friendly to try others at CB and yet again pick a guy who doesn't even player regular team football, is a really poor lack of judgment.
Also THE RB is past his sell-by date, why not try a youngsters in Shaw's absence?
Brasil had lost their last 3 matches, so not a great threat, but they looked more like a team and a 17 year old scored one and missed a second big chance!
I was following on live text and when the manager made changes, the comment was, so no change to tactics, like for like subs.
Sums him up, so conservative with his approach. He is out of date with his strategies and would not get a job with most Premiership Clubs.
On the positive side, thought Gordon did well.
Great to see our second-best Brazilian get ratings better than most of the England players!

6.) 24 Mar 2024 08:59:51
Since euro 96 I've lost interest England.
Nice tribute for Terry venables.

Superb by Liverpool Ed001 to give sven g.erickson his life long dream to manage Liverpool.
John Aldridge Ian rush legends.

{Ed001's Note - really good game as well and so nice that Sven made tactical changes to win it.}

7.) 24 Mar 2024 09:09:41
Chuffed for you Ed001.

{Ed001's Note - I am just hoping it raised a lot for charity and that Sven got the most out of it. Watching him come out to a roar from the Kop did bring tears to my eyes I have to admit.}

8.) 24 Mar 2024 09:32:46
Only 2 players got an 8 rating in the Times - Paqueta and Gomes, none for England as per. Well done Joao.

I was happy with Southgate until recently, we were so close to winning something. He's just not able to manage a game. His initial set up yesterday seemed ineffectual, it needed tweaking. Individually a few of the England team played well but we were never a threat in open play yet nothing was altered it appears. As said above, like for like subs. GON is far less experienced but he alters setups mid game more often than not.

It's too late to change now, but I think he'll walk in July, if not I think we're wasting the most talented England squad ever.

9.) 24 Mar 2024 09:37:37
I stopped watching England the day grealish got called up pretty petty I know but I can’t stand the cheating little git from what I can gather I haven’t missed much either I was more interested in our little Brazilian master than englands performance

10.) 24 Mar 2024 10:04:20
Here here Ed001re raising for charity why it means something for me to post to you.
It's the nice side of the football community even though I'm a yam yam wolves fan.

Mac, grealish hasn't turned up any trees at man City I dislike the bloke too.

{Ed001's Note - that is what football clubs should be about - the local community that they draw their original fanbase from.}

11.) 24 Mar 2024 11:05:09
Very true Phil for me it was just the fact that for years we absolutely crucified foreign players for cheating and diving then all of a sudden it’s ok for an English player to start doing it I won’t have it I’m afraid. All his diving does is slow up play if teams want to press quickly. If Southgate’s happy with that then he’s not the man for the job.

12.) 24 Mar 2024 11:45:50
Southgate always was and will always be a Yes man to the FA. I remember the good old days when Bobby Robson, Terry Venables, Glenn Hoddle and Kevin Keegan selected players based on form, not the club you played for.

13.) 24 Mar 2024 17:12:02
Like you mac, I've given up on England. They turn up now more interested in themselves than being proud to represent the country. The FA just hijack games for money and commercialism. I just can't find the passion to enjoy it.

14.) 25 Mar 2024 10:21:53
England since 96 we've disappointed in every tournament.
All the golden generation Beckham lampard Gerrard deville shearer etc etc couldn't get past q/f.

Southgate has actually got us to 2 semi and a final.

Its all the same o same o qualify and fail in tournaments.

15.) 25 Mar 2024 10:23:44
Heard on Radio Wimborne Southgate picks maguire from how he performed at previous tournaments.

16.) 26 Mar 2024 17:25:40
Southgate really showing he picks his team and squad on sentiment alone and not form or ability. Handed rice the arm Band on his 50th cap wow what a way to run our national team. I bet he throws him a tea party with fairy cakes too, Pathetic

Double page spread on GON in Mail on Saturday sports section. Good read.

1.) 24 Feb 2024 21:49:22
Yes agree. When we beat shef utd
We leapfrog Newcastle
, ??⚽⚽

2.) 24 Feb 2024 23:59:52
Results went for us today, so we need to beat Sheffield tomorrow. I did predict a Wolves victory 2-0, but I'm feeling more positive now. Going 4-0 with goals from Hwang, Neto and Sarabia.

3.) 25 Feb 2024 02:36:00
Actually Greyleg if we beat Sheffield we leapfrog Chelsea, West Ham and Newcastle to go 8th. No wonder the media are all over GON.

It is nice though to have a great young English Coach at the helm doing so well. Where's all the 'Wolves are dead certs for relegation' pundits now?

4.) 25 Feb 2024 06:32:17
As you say Long.today is a great opportunity to move to the heady heights of 8th!
However, a tricky game to negotiate. SU will, I assume, "park the bus".
I am optimistic the team will but aside the disappointments of the last two home games and move us to 38 points.

5.) 25 Feb 2024 09:24:03
Tbh Rugeley given their goals against stats anything short of a win would be so poor, given that every in form team that's played them recently has thrashed them.

6.) 25 Feb 2024 10:47:29
Excellent article by Oliver Holt. An enjoyable read by a decent journalist makes a nice change to have column inches in the Mail that stay on the online pages for more than a day! Although they expect you to pay extra to read it! I read it on another site that it had been copied to.

Interesting comments today in the Sunday Times sports section. Columnist Martin Samuel, no fan of Fifa or Eufa, and less so of the A22 group mocks their belief in a Super League and trusts the fans will always be the final arbiter of a successful competition. Steve Parrush, Chairman of Palace, does however raise a fear that the ruling has ramifications. 'plenty of things within Uefa' s orbit that are now open to challenge. Financial rules for one. ' and their proposal for coefficient qualification, hastily dropped after the super league fiasco. He fears a Kerry Packer style hit on football, not long lasting, but changing the game forever.

A22's head coming above the parapet again after European Court's ruling. They won't lie down.

Wimbornewolf

1.) 21 Dec 2023 22:54:34
Sorry Wimborne, but can you elaborate?

2.) 22 Dec 2023 06:48:06
Is it the court ruling on 'super league' Wimborne? Meaning UEFA and FIFA can't stop teams joining because of trading laws. It won't happen because apart from Barcelona and real Madrid no other side as shown interest, also the government policy/regs/law will not permit clubs when it comes in.

3.) 22 Dec 2023 09:31:11
The ruling has effectively decided football is an industry and open to competition law. Therefore it is illegal to ban a new football league or competition. However, as correctly stated above the Premier League will deduct 30 points from and club participating and there are other penalties which may prevent an English club from participating in home competitions. The fear is that the Saudis have the ability to throw huge sums at any competition as they have already demonstrated across other sports.

If it is a sale the timing seems strange. Fosun is a global investment company and would have been more likely to sell when Wolves were a more attractive prospect. At present they are a club hindered by FFP, which will be the same for a new owner, and a possible scenario of championship football on the horizon. It is possible Fosun are under pressure to raise cash, but what they would get for Wolves is small beer.

We can only speculate Arddunby, but I see Everton only get 2 point deduction for a second offence, and the rumour is that the FA is thinking of dropping points deduction as a future penalty. Could it possibly be that the FA is now concerned over the precedent that may well impact on 2 teams in the select set, one who is charged and the other under scrutiny. If there was a conspiracy then it would not be against a large number of lesser teams, but a positive bias in favour of a small select few. I will speculate further and suggest that we will not have to wait too long before the European League resurfaces possibly in an American style closed shop. Then all we have witnessed in the PL to date becomes clear. Just speculation though.

That is very possible Arddunby. But when poor decisions are made how often is the less 'fashionable' club the loser.

There is a definite whiff hanging over VAR, aided and abetted by the intent of the FA and how the PL is managed. FFP is a joke. It seems that a rich club with a battery of lawyers to defend an array of charges can delay justice, whereas smaller clubs with lesser charges get instant justice by comparison. Simply the FA's overriding management style is to preserve the status quo to ensure maximum TV rights cash, and full stadiums at the big venues to ensure the successful clubs cash flow to keep the circle flowing. Seems they would hate a newly promoted club to win the PL, was the last club to get promoted and win the top division Notts Forest and Clough? What chance of that now. Money is concentrated to prevent that. Clubs are effectively barred from taking on the top 6 by FFP. FFP was supposed to protect small clubs, try asking Bury how that worked. Now clubs who secure a wealthy owner with hope of taking on the fat cats who did exactly that and thereby secured a massive revenue, can not do the same. It is a protection racket, a scheme to impose a monopoly of success. VAR and how it is implemented with regular rule changes to suit it, is a part of this grand scheme. Corruption? I didn't say that, but plenty do.

Bang on Bully's Boy. If you can't worry the opposition up front, then their defence bolsters their midfield. I thought we did well with limited resources, and I praise the youngsters for giving it a go, but with all three main strikers out it was a tough call.

I think the game showed clearly how thin our squad is. Some youngsters with potential, but not ready yet. Bad luck to have 3 main strikers out, but Neto seems prone to injury, and if he stays he is unlikely to do a full season. Dawson was a big loss and we badly need another centre back of his stature. We seem to be able to introduce one new player with a full side and maintain momentum, but today was a lot of non-regulars. Grateful for the break to sort some injuries out.
