What's everyone's thoughts % wise that Cunha will start next season with us and if so, what promises would you think he'd need to be given by the club to commit.

If we can have a really strong finish to the season and finish mid table I believe 70% chance cunha will stay with us.Vitor needs to build the team around Cunha and convince him by strengthening the squad in the summer and really pushing on next season.

Upto the club to show ambition and build team around Cunha, based on the last couple years I can’t see it happening and will probably see Cunha leave to a club that’s got European football, Wolves will sell and make excuses for PSR, I hope i'm wrong of cause.

Problem you s his head could be turned by paper talk, saying he should play in Europe. I suspect he will go if a real offer comes in

Agree wolfo, we need to make a clear
Statement, to bring in some more class players, then maybe cunha will hang around. I didn't see the match. So relying on those who did. For comments, so did djiga do ok,
Did lima do ok.
We could be on the verge of becoming a force in the prem next season.
With the new faces we brought in
Getting up to speed
The youth we have access to,
And maybe four quality additions
In the summer,
That is if we stay up.

Probably if a champions league club came in for Cunha he would go. In the current climate I doubt most clubs outside the champions league would be prepared to pay the release fee.

Difficult one really regarding Cuhna. At Wolves he's idolised by the fans and virtually guaranteed to play every game. Does he want to become a Neto or Grealish, bit part players and not deemed by their respective fan base as good enough. I suspect Fosun will really need to show ambition in the summer though if we stand any chance of retaining him. I honestly think we have the makings now of a really good team and VP has instilled discipline.
Semado will probably go next year but Lima looks an excellent prospect. Sarabia will go, and if possible we should sell Guedes, Hwang, Fabio, Sasa, and maybe a few of the other loanee's to raise what we can to offset the signings in January and help fund any new purchases or loans in the summer. This is all assuming we avoid relegation.

Wow love all the optimism on here about Wolves- although oddly seemingly not with regard to Cunha's ability.
In my view Wolves currently have one of the best players in the Premier League in their ranks.
If Isak is a £160m player Cunha at £62.5m is the bargain of the century and why would any of the top 8 or 9 teams in the Prem, (who all can easily afford that fee), plus another dozen or so in Europe not rip our hands off to steal him at that price.
Sadly I don't like being a "deathshead" but the short answer is virtually zero.
Will post a long answer - why it isn't zero - on Monday.

I would think it would be pretty much zero % Raging. What can the club promise him? The club has to make money for itself now as Fosun have other priorities and are committed to cutting the groups borrowings.

I've not read of any changes to the transfer policy so it must mean more of the same. On that basis he will be sold.

Surely it's a case of 'how many' clubs want cunha, and how many are prepared to pay. 60odd m trigger a release, if only one club offers it its up to cunha if he wants to go, more than one and we have a bidding situation don't we?
I totally agree tfig if others are rated so highly surely we should expect the market to reflect that regarding cunha, but will it?, because, no doubt to meet cunhas satisfaction in his contract its been placed so low.
If things were different we could slap a no bids under £150m on him couldn't we? and clubs would be dancing to our tune.

Looking at stats for goals scored, Cunha is on 13 in 7th place but 4 of the 6 above him boost there totals with penalty goals. Salah for example 7 of his 25 have been scored from the spot. For a side that has been struggling Cunha's stats are excellent.

Abbey - sadly I don't think we can get a bidding situation. I believe that unless Cunha waives his rights no one pays more than £62.5m as Cunha simply says which of the clubs who want him he wants to go to and then they pay the £62.5m to Wolves.
The "extra" I guess in theory goes to Cunha in terms of a better contract?
Ed is that how the "release clause"works?

{Ed001's Note - actually, it depends. A release clause (as the term is used by UK journos) requires the payment to be in full, up front, to trigger it. A team that wants to pay over, for example, 3 years, may agree to pay a little extra to get around that up front payment. Or the selling club may agree to waive that requirement to avoid issues with the player, if he wants to go to a particular club only.

Though it is difficult to be sure what the actual clause is regarding Cunha, as they report it as if it is the same as is used in Spain and Portugal. They are not legal in the UK, as Luis Suarez found when he tried to trigger his to leave Liverpool and join Arsenal and lost the court battle. The problem is journalists don't bother to fact check and realise that there are different clauses with regard to transfers.

In Spain, the player has a release clause which requires them to pay up the amount to be released from their contract. That is what a release clause actually is and they are misreporting what Cunha has as a release clause. It is not the same, as the club would be legally required to release the player in Spain and Portugal if the release clause fee is met in full by the player. What happens in practice is, such as in the case of Neymar moving to PSG, the money is provided to the player by the team wishing to sign him, but there is no actual transfer fee ever paid. So when they report Neymar as being amongst the most expensive transfer fees ever paid, you know they are factually incorrect as he actually bought out his contract and joined PSG on a free.

Sorry got sidetracked then!}

Brilliant info ED!

Many tks

So it is slightly more complicated than I thought.
However you don't sound as if you think Wolves might get say £75m as several clubs want him and are all willing to pay £62.5m and indeed more?

{Ed001's Note - it would depend on Cunha once it goes over the clause. If there is more than one that he is willing to join, then there could be a bidding war between those. So you need to hope he likes the teams after him.}

Thanks Ed. That sort of clears things up, but of course we don't know what clause cunhas got, I'd imagine he can buy 'himself' out if he wants to. So that 67/70m is most likely it.
