Good question, I tell you someone I think we've all taken for granted at some point during his stay and that's Romain Saiss. It was only when he was leaving and they said he'd accumulated 206 apps for the club that you start to realise what a reliable option he has been. Of course he had the occasional absolutely ridiculous pen or red card in him but he seemed to get better on that front as he's got older. I do wonder if had the club known Coady was going they may have given Saiss that extra year he wanted but who knows. Eitherway the guy really did grow into the team, I'll be honest first season in the Champ I thought he wasn' t good enough, how wrong I was! COYW ???

Going further back a trio of imo superb quality goalkeepers,
Matt Murray
Wayne Hennessey
Carl ikeme.
I would say Batth over Stearman purely down to Bubble was our captain.

Agree bullysboy on saiss.?

Forgotten hero - Barry Douglas. He played such an important role in the promotion winning season, likewise Alfred NDiaye, an absolute beast in midfield alongside Neves.

Stephen Ward came as a striker ended up as a defender and was decent too.

Stephen Ward my first ever time at Anfeild scored the only goal and me and bro sitting right next to his dad in the stand.
Magical it was awesome hearing never walk alone from the kop with all the Liverpool flags.
A memory I will never forget.

Jas M.

Totally agree about Barry Douglas getting a bit of a raw deal. At the time I was also a bit gutted we didn't sign Andreas Weimann.

There were a few players that fell out of flavour when Lambert was in for that part season.

14.) 21 Sep 2022

My personal top 3 favourites though are: 1 John De Wolf. 2 Dennis Irwin. 3 Matt Murray and 4 George Ndah.

Loved all the players that have been here (including Roussel, Frankowski etc) but those 4 were my favourites.

19.) 21 Sep 2022

Geoff Thomas crippled by think it was Sunderland player he would of gone on to be a legend imo.

George Ndah Jas my boss had executive seats at St. Andrews and took me for the second time we won 0-1 Ndah in first minute previous year same score same first minute Steve Bull.

20.) 21 Sep 2022

His goal against Leicester in FA Cup was probably the best I've ever seen.

21.) 21 Sep 2022
21 Sep 2022 15:08:03
Matt doherty not in anyone's list?
He was superb for us in our climb.

22.) 21 Sep 2022
21 Sep 2022 15:34:59
Jas M-There was a better FA Cup goal against Leicester by David Kelly-as John Motson commentated 'You won't see a better goal in the FA Cup this season unless you're very lucky'

What about Ndah's goal away at Preston?

23.) 21 Sep 2022
21 Sep 2022 16:53:58
Best goal I have seen scored by Wolves was by Guy Whittingham at Charlton in 1994. Ran half the length of the pitch leaving defenders in his wake - think John Barnes v Brazil or Maradona v England.
Sadly he was only on loan from Villa and played 13 games (scoring 8 goals) before leaving us and signing for SW.

24.) 21 Sep 2022
21 Sep 2022 18:15:07
Henri Camara of course! (Bad joke!)

27.) 22 Sep 2022
21 Sep 2022 22:39:56
Best goal for me was Robbie Dennison at Wembley in some FA Centenary Trophy (or something).
.or any of Bully's against Albion ???

28.) 22 Sep 2022
22 Sep 2022 09:27:32
Have to include Robbie Keane.

29.) 22 Sep 2022
22 Sep 2022 12:30:20
Greylegwolf like your choice but would add John Richards, Alan Sunderland with his 70's perm and the late great Frank Munro. Maybe the Doog for entertainment value and if you go further back, Peter Know!es and Erni Hunt.

30.) 22 Sep 2022
22 Sep 2022 14:40:06
I could add 50 more names to those, but if I could only have one it would have to be Bully. He stayed with us when it looked like he may leave and made himself an absolute legend. Love him to bits. UTW.

31.) 22 Sep 2022
22 Sep 2022 16:02:12
Noddy and Alpine, both Bully and JR certainly were WWFC through and through, at their peak both could have secured big money moves and are 2 of the 6 (if I've remembered correctly) to play for England since the mid 60's. Talking of which he didn't play that many times for us but I would add Emlyn Hughes to the list, another of our England capped players whose influence albeit briefly in 79/80 was phenomenal.

I like how this convo ran away when maybe my original post was possinly poorly written as I really meant. Stearman or Batth, who had the biggest contribution lol.
