Wolvo, at the risk of upsetting some on here who don't like me talking about football finances, sadly Newcastle is not a rich club - the owners are but that is not the same.
The rules could, it seems, have almost been designed to stop rich, (or talented as Fosun appeared to be in the first 3 years with Nuno), owners building teams to compete with the 6 rich/sky clubs.
Newcastle's turnover is nearly double Wolves but that is still only a fraction of the big 6's. They also lose - before player and one off property sales - substantial sums, (not Wolves levels, of course!) as they are trying to match the big 6 in wages and fees but without the income to do so.
The rules don't allow this even if the owners are willing to put the money in to finance the losses!
Consequently, the rules force Newcastle to back down from their challenge of the big 6.
But even if, like Wolves, you were able to break even or in fact make profits as Wolves did with Nuno, the big 6 attack you with offers of crazy wage increases for your better players, unsettling them and, of course, given short contracts eventually forcing you to sell.


They also inflate the market for fees and wages to put the other clubs under pressure.
Clubs simply can't match the big teams for wages and fees and, if they try, they can get badly burnt - Fabio?
How do you bridge the gap - win matches/trophies for 3 or 4 years and become adopted as a big 7 team.
Wolves got v v close but Jeff fell out with Nuno - idiot!
Now the big 6 are taking no chances that another team might actually bridge the gap and attack viciously anyone who gets close - Newcastle and Villa being the obvious 2.
Brentford, Brighton and Bournemouth, v well run clubs, know the rules and the game and will happily supply the big 6 with good players at appropriately high fees - sadly hamstringing any chance they may have had to challenge themselves but keeping them within the rules and steady in mid table obscurity.
The best anyone can really hope for.

As I have said before, they (the laws) are there to protect the cheats and liars. People should not jump too quick to castigate Leicester - they dared to compete.
The sooner these clubs go and form their own Super League, the better.

Not so long ago Southampton were also happily supplying the big teams with their best players, and even their head coach. It works for a while until it doesn't. And if a big, big club bends the rules, like Citeh, and commits 115 alleged offences, nothing happens. Or in Chelsea's case, just a fine. But if you're not big, they will throw the book at you.

Ps, I'd add Crystal Palace to the list of threatening teams attacked by the big 6 - Dougie Freeman built them a great team, and they even won a trophy and got into Europe, but now at least 4 of that side have left for "bigger" teams?
Deep, of course, you are absolutely correct!
No one has ever done it successfully in the long run, as eventually even really well clubs like the 3 bs will find out.


However, that didn't stop Jeff claiming he was the world's smartest man and that he was going to defy history like some later day Canute and successfully run a buy low sell high strategy!

It's impossible to compare the big do called 6 to us, as they break all the FFP rules. Even if u compete for a session or two, like Villa, they break u.

The problem is sponsorship. How can they make Wolves a big name globally? Shi tried in China but failed. Maybe get BYD to sponsor them for £50 million per season. Rename the stadium for £50 million. If Wolves were in the top 10 of the PL, maybe.


But then, people on this site will complain.
And, maybe you can find out what is holding up redevelopment of the stadium. Something tells me it is the City Council, or whoever decides that from the city's side of things.
