With Eddie Howe about to leave Newcastle, all the money in the world behind the club hasn't helped. There's been a exodus of their best players at top money and they can't replace like for like. Looks like their 12th place finish last season is about the best they can hope for moving forward.

Under FFP or PSR, what is the point? Not saying Wolves would have, but teams like us, Newcastle and Villa get a decent team around us, then suddenly have to sell our best assets because of the rules, flounder and have to start again. Unfortunately for us, bad recruitment has led to relegation. Newcastle could be the next Wolves.

With Wolves crashing and burning after such high hopes, I'm not surprised, due to Fosun being in charge. A couple of seasons ago, I really thought Newcastle had cracked through that glass ceiling, but even with Saudi money and a shrewd head coach in Eddie Howe, they fell back. Top talent does not want to move to Newcastle these days.

I always thought there was a certain symmetry with our respective clubs: sleeping giants from the 1950s, one club cities, etc. I know for a fact that Fosun, ironically, wanted to buy Newcastle before they brought us. Let's see if Villa can keep up their momentum.

Why is it that only the 2 Manchester clubs and Chelsea and Arsenal can get away with all this spending and never seem to be affected.

Let's remember that exactly 12 months ago Newcastle were tapping Strand-Larsen. Maybe a coincidence, but his form fell away alarmingly once his transfer was denied. Let's just say what goes round comes round.

That's not the point I'm making 47Vintage, it's just that it doesn't matter how rich a club is unless you're in Manchester or London. FFP and PSR are killing clubs they were supposed to protect, while letting the big clubs I mentioned get away with seemingly no restrictions.

Completely agree with the observation regarding Manchester and London. It is not just football where those two cities are favoured in terms of economy, culture, sport, etc - and unjustifiably so.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs maybe seem unaccountable and are never, or rarely, brought to task or close scrutiny.

As for that lot in Erdington - I have no comment to make.
