Wolves have allegedly 'made contact' with Ruben Amorim. He led Sporting to their first Primeira Liga win in nearly 20 years in 2021.

In his total 133 matches in charge of various clubs Amorim has achieved 96 wins, with just 20 losses.

At just 37 some may consider him relatively inexperienced and with obviously no Premier League experience would that be a risk? However, a winner is a winner with some making the step up seamlessly.

So young, obviously ambitious and knows how to win games and presumably get a team scoring. Do we like the sound of him?

Difficult to really know which replacement would be best, sometimes a manager is just the right "fit" for a club regardless of their cv. There have been a lot of high profile failures over the years and some very successful underdog managers. Fingers and toes crossed that we get it right.

Probably whoever we go for is a gamble, this guy will at least be able to settle quickly and be aware of many of the players capabilities. Until each candidate rules himself in/out and we get a list then not much point in to much in depth contemplation.

As a more overarching consideration I would hope we can avoid candidates who've had a succession of 2 year appointments that have ended badly. Probably wishful thinking.

On paper Amorin looks another Nuno/Lage type. Success in Portugal but no premier league experience. However, he plays a high pressing style, which I like and he may get a tune out of Nunes, which would be a boost. The best of the others touted is Villas Boas. He has PL experience, however if he had a say in the spending of the £85m Spurs got for Bale, then I am not impressed. He bought 6 players and only Eriksen proved to be any good.

I think it was the right time for Lage to go but to me the real culprit is whoever is responsible for recruitment . The writing b was On The wall at the end of last season. First thing they do this season is give Coady away, he was the heartbeat of the team. Then sell Body and leave us with virtually no cover. He obvious!y didn't trust Toti or Mosquera so plays our best player at CB . Good job Sa didn't get injured he would have had Podence in goal!

Amorim have a contract and won't come cheap. But it would be a big statement if they get him. He will at some point end up in a big club if his success continue. And when he goes to Barcelona or Manchester United we can all dream of what could have been. Or we can go for him now. But there is a lot of great coaches on the list. What can go wrong ?

Longmyndwolf, I like the stats attributed to Amorin. It reminds me of a certain young Portugese manager who took over a struggling Benfica team a few seasons ago and got them playing fast, attacking football and they scored 103 goals in a 30 game unbeaten run. I think his name was Bruno Lage.

I said on the Banter site a few weeks back that Amorim would be my first choice- I haven't changed my mind

Jas I think Lage inherited the right team at the right time, they must of been capable of that all along.

To be fair Amorim has maintained his win rate across three different teams now, but as we know not in the Prem which is different gravy to the Portuguese leagues. Having said that he did beat Spurs and one other (name escapes me) in Europe recently with his attacking play.

Also, it would be a big contract buy out, but Wolves have enquired knowing that so time will tell I suppose.

Whoever we get, I'll be 100% behind them.

On another note, interesting comments from Souness and Simon Jordan regarding the Wolves board and both have said they would have backed Lage.

Which is easy for them to say Jas when it's not their team and their money under threat. I think Wolves gave Lage plenty of time, bought him the players he wanted and still the same old, same old even with new players. Therefore, it wasn't hard to work out where the problem was both in terms of his tactics and his man-management, apparently.

Didn't exactly help Bruno when he decided that the club captain couldn't play in a back four so pushed him out. Then he happens to be picked out on MoD two weeks on the trot showing how good he is at it!

So true Jas, I can't help seeing the stats around Amorin and thinking that he basically seems like a less experienced version of Bruno! I'm sure he's good but there is a danger that we just keep rinsing and repeating the same system, which is a worry when it didn't work last time?!

Lopetegu looks the most likely candidate to me. First choice for Fosun at the outset before he was offered Spanish national job. Not delivering this year at Seville and job under threat. However, Mendes could negotiate a release which would get him out of Seville, without them having to pay out his contract if he went straight into Wolves job, without us having to pay a release fee. Saves money for both clubs and doubtless Mendes wouldn’t miss out financially. Is he the best option, may be not. My own choice would be Amiron but can’t see us paying £20 million release clause or him wanting to trade Champions League for survival struggle.

Cant see why amorim would want to come at the moment anyway.lopetigu might bring a bigclub attitude to get a tune out of this lot.heard souness and jordan yday.obviously they havnt been watching us because they had no idea!

Lopetequi.Amorin. All these existing names thrown around. Would back anyone of them as a new manager. Then I read Svensson is on the short list. What. "The Svensson name is often used to describe a boring typical Swed". What's a Svensson doing on a short list for a manager job at Wolves.? But being a little serious for a moment. He is actually Danish. Have done well in Germany. Maybe not a bad idea to balance the team by getting a manager outside of Portugal. Just a thought.

Longmyndwolf, remember Stale Solbakken was a winner aswell look how that turned out. We ought to go for Max Allegri

Or Man O War, Sergio Conceicao currently at FC Porto, someone that has all the tools, he excels at organising a strong attack with an equally strong defence. Not sure if he's on their radar though.

Ray389 how can you say it was other people's fault. bruno lage was and is a poor manager who just happens to be a client of mendez. and as for sporting manager, wolves will not pay a 20 million release clause.

The list of managers are divided in two groups. Recent success but limited experience or experience but limited success recent years. (Lage had either?). Then there are managers with both experience and success who is out of reach. Klopp Pep. Conceicao is one of those. But there was a incident after the Brugge game that might make him consider a move. I know I would.
