Was just thinking of players who we signed and I'd hoped would really go on to be successful but unfortunately didn't.
Tony Daley
John de Wolf
Patrick Catrone
Diego Costa
Fabio

Daley and De Wolf were hampered by injuries. Costa was too old. Cutrone didn't want to be here. Fabio wasn't good enough.

Not sure why De Wolf is in that list. He was past his prime when he joined, did pretty well and became a cult hero.

I personally thought De Wolf was perfect for us at the time, both as a player and an identity in his name and his appearance. A hat trick away at, was it Preston? I forget, but it was sods law for me because I always had a £1 at home on him getting one.
It's not often you see a defender getting 3 in a game.
So he may not have played that many but he was a success for us in the time he spent here.
Another player I thought would light us up was the 'madmonk' kasbeia (spelling) full of promise with little to show for it.

As I recall Abbey it was Lee Howey who effectively did for John DeWolf at Sunderland. Yes the same animal who did for Geoff Thomas a couple of years earlier. I still believe Wolves could have been promoted a lot earlier had DeWolf and Thomas not suffered those injuries.
