Talking to my son last night this came under discussion. Can I ask, an opinion.would we have a chance to stay up; a) under O'Neill b) if O'Neill had been backed in January or C) it's because of Perreira.

I think Agbadou is a very important factor. He was immense last night.

I think A and B would not have been fruitful unless O Neill had been given £150m plus.
Perreira has done an excellent job.

It is a good question but also impossible to really know the answer. I totally agree with you in regards to Agbadou, the transformation he's made to our defence is genuinely incredible! Signing of the season for me ?
To answer your original question though, I think in Jan a lot of the damage (to morale) had already been done. Equally, on the other hand I do think that had we just signed Agbadou when we should have (so the day Kilman left), then I think Gary would have kept us up comfortably.
All that aside there is no getting away from the fact that VP has done a fantastic job. The clean sheets and solid defending to see games out in recent weeks have been a REAL revelation considering how poor our defence was looking. Also think VP deserves credit for the work he's done with Sa. Keepers always go unnoticed but he really is getting back to his first season best now he's got a Portuguese manager again! Happy days ??

Much as I respected O'Neil he was very obviously out of his depth and would probably not have achieved even if Foson had backed him financially. His time will come but Wolves was too early for him.

Just noticed Ipswich are in front at Bournemouth at half time. If they do win and beat us on Saturday the 12 point lead we have will be halved. Hope not or back to biting our finger nails.

I think morale has changed wolfromhastings, sure we've acquired the difference aganadu gives, but its more united team approach now I'd say, and that can only be from VP.
GON was always abit resigned to doing our best in interviews, VP a more positive sort. The players would pick up on that I'm sure. He backs them and understands them, chuck in the language barriers GON may have had and VP can communicate more clearly maybe?.
VP gives me confidence in our future with GON it was what happens happens.
There's a lot to be improved upon I know, but I think VP will mould us into a top half team next season no problem.

Hastings - excellent Q!
Completely agree re Agbadou but even if Agbadou had been here all year not sure it would have made up for the insanity of trying to play 4 at the back with our current squad and the lack of any sort of defensive organisation - 4 at the back or otherwise - in GON's second season in charge.
Agree Perreira has done very well but it was hard not to look like a major upgrade on the chaos of GON's second season. Also the bottom 3 have collapsed making our "recovery" look even better.
If we could keep the squad together, (no additions or losses), I would be hopeful of a solid mid-table season as the squad is nowhere near as bad as GON made it look.
Sadly due to the financial mismanagement of the club we will probably have to lose 2 or 3 (maybe more if Semedo is allowed to walk!) of our better players and obviously it is impossible to say what if anything we will add - note Larsen and the 3 from January have to be paid for this year already.
As usual a great shame that year on year whatever progress we make has to be thrown away to cover up Jeff's shortcomings.

So Larsen, Djiga, Agbadou and Munetsi have to be paid off in full but we allow other clubs to buy our players and pay in installments?

That really is a poor policy.

No Wandering - once again despite not understanding what you are talking about you dive in and make a ludicrous comment.
It is not cashflow that restricts our activities but PSR related profits.
The purchases are almost certainly on deferred terms - we already owe vast amounts, net circa £70m, to other clubs for purchases previously made - but the amortisation is based on the full purchase price regardless if it is paid in cash or not.
Given the huge losses we already make, pre player sales, increasing our amorts is something that we have to be very cautious about.
Given however the sales of Kilman, Neto and Podence last year (after the huge sales the previous year as well) and the likely sale of Cunha we may have a little more wriggle room ( even after the Larsen and Jan purchases ) but it won't be much and only the club truly knows.

I didn't make a ludicrous comment at all. I just wanted clarification that we had to pay for the players this year based on the following extract from your post

'note Larsen and the 3 from January have to be paid for this year already'.

Which seemed to me that you wrote that the players bought in January, plus Larsen needed to be paid for THIS year. You wrote it, not me. I just wanted clarity.

And also TFIOG, just for your info, my friend since the mid 80's works for a company that work closely with Liverpool, Man Utd, Wolves, Villa and another 10 or so clubs dealing with the accounts and player pensions. He tells me how it works.
