Spain vs Saudi Arabia showing how wretched "five at the back" is as a system. Unless a team has the right players in the right positions it doesn't work.

Hopefully a back five system will never be seen again at Wolves.

As for Spain, not as good as everyone thinks.

No system works well with the wrong players in the wrong position. Good managers find a system that suits the players they have. Ramsey, in 66, with no wingers, went 4-3-3 instead. I suppose it's how adaptable the good players are.

Some will just need to be given a job and left to it. It's the classier ones who make it work at this level. In 66, it was Charlton, Moore, Peters and Ball who had the flair and technique to really make it work.

I'm pretty sure all tactics and formations are like that. I don't think it's just 5 at the back. It worked for Nuno... We even had a song about it... With pace in attack?

Now I'm not a fan of 5 at the back because it limits attacking chances to quick transitional counters.

And that was the problem under Nuno, especially after Jimenez had that awful incident.
