I would have thought that following the PR debacle that is the Money Shop deal, that a better gesture that SM could have made on his departure was to announce the full funding of the SJH statue.

It would have been a magnanimous gesture and one that would have sat well with the supporters, after all, both SM and JM always spoke highly of SJH and, for SM, it would have represented a very small departing gift.

Does anyone know where the statue is in terms of funding? I Understood that the club had promised to make up any funding shortfall after the initial public donation round. It's just that it always sat a little uncomfortably that a club, and man with SM'S resources, couldn't have seen fit to honour SJH from their own pockets.

I hope that Fosun will scrap the Money shop deal at the first opportunity, and think that they will be keen to use the marketing opportunity to either promote their own name, one of their associated brands or even bring in a recognised global blue-chip sponsor to generate additional revenues. It would be nice to see a carefully choosen big name on our shirts like the Goodyear days rather than a brand like Money Shop.

Don't see why the work permit seems rooted as a cause for preventing him signing for us.

A few seasons back, Santiago Munez signed for Newcastle without any problems whatsoever.

Here's the thing. In theory, we could sign and afford to pay the wages of most, if not all, of the players in the Premier League.

So, currently every player linked to us is potentially a new recruit, it's just some are more believable than others and only a few will be convinced to join us while we sit outside of the top division.

The obstacle we can't remove is that of status. For every signing we are capable of funding, we need the player to accept that they may be playing Championship football for between 1 and 2 seasons. We require humility from ourselves, to accept our current circumstances, but more importantly, require it from the players we are pursuing - it's the absence of this characteristic in the modern footballer that seriously undermines the pool that we actually have access to at this point in our development.

This leaves us shopping in different markets; divided into loans and short term deals, for those who wish to hedge their bets or use us as a stepping stone to (currently) more prestigious clubs; Aging players looking for one last challenge (or pay day) and those players who are not immediately recognised as top talent, but worth a punt.

Imagine a successful promotion campaign and your problem morphs again, this time it's not status that will discourage potential signings but the ability to stay in the Premier League. Then it's the intangibles, the draw of London over the regions, Champions League football etc. etc.

Sometimes, despite the money available you just can't spend it, and in the mean time, every WUM, mischeif maker and daydreamer will continue to link us to anyone and everyone.

Oh and one more thing, every rumour could do with a link to the source. "we've been linked to. " or "I've just heard. " just don't cut it any more.

I love this thought that a player who can reject a club, effectively dismissing us all as being beneath his ambition and unwilling to finance his lavish lifestyle would be welcomed back as a returning hero.

Sako was a standout player among a very mediocre group of contemporaries, but this desire to treat him as though he were blameless and forgivable for organising a departure is getting tedious. He may not be Henri Camera, but his actions marked him out as cut from similar cloth and although none of this seems to be coming from the player himself, that he may benefit from our change in circumstances is a disgraceful thought. We should not be sympathetic that it hasn't worked out for him at Palace we should be glad, lesson learned, the grass isn't always greener. Chapter closed move on, there are plenty of better options out there for us.

Come on it's been several hours since we last signed anyone.
